3 things #chronicillness taught me about true body positivity:
✶I can’t heal hating the body that beat cancer, birthed 2 babies & lost 3 others.
Bodies need to be loved by “us” 1st. We will find no long term self-acceptance through the eyes of others.
✶ Society will never accept all bodies.
I’ve been hated overweight due to emotional eating bc of trauma and hated for being underweight due to cancer and chronic illness.
We are much more than a number, size, shape or image.
Society does not dictate “our” healthy. We do.
✶ Peace comes from progress; not perfection.
We have to constantly re-evaluate “our” relationship to our bodies to ensure each step along the journey we are not comparing, complaining, or consuming media that tells us what we “should” see as beauty.
Someone’s weight “loss” is as big a triumph as other’s “gain” and it’s not a competition.
Another’s success does not mean our failure.
No one controls my narrative. No one owns body positivity rights.
Now I cherish “my” struggle and “my” story.
Who’s writing yours?
