The gut response is to point out that I bet these people have no issues with the graphic content in the Bible and weren’t nearly as angry when Donald Trump said he could grab women by the pussy and have never had issue with their library having Fifty Shades of Grey. 1/
Because let’s be honest, “graphic content” isn’t what this is about at all. It’s about creating fear. It’s about creating moral panic. It’s to shock you and make you so angry and fearful that you vote out of fear to protect what they want…2/
Which is to protect kids only if those kids are straight, white, and Christian. And even then, protect them from what? Not from gun violence, not from underfunded schools, not from the impacts of climate change or lack of healthcare… 3/
…from anyone else who doesn’t fit a narrow, hateful view of what’s acceptable. 4/
It’s to get you so angry and fearful that some “dark forces” (aka Democrats, teachers, public schools, colleges) exist solely to molest or indoctrinate your kids so you don’t even notice…they don’t care about you either. And they have no plans to actually make your life better.
They’ll just blast content they claim to find objectionable from a book you’ve likely never heard of and may never read all over TV to get you angry.
And they’ll paint anyone well who isn’t on their side: the side that wants to privatize education and destroy public schools, make it a crime to “say gay,” control women’s bodies…as “groomers.”
Well take it from this so-called “groomer,” it’s bullshit.
In 2021, exactly 2 abortions in Michigan (a state of 10 million people) occurred after 28 weeks. In both cases, they were necessary because of a life-threatening medical emergency.
Tori got the medical care she needed for her family and the result every family hopes for!
That is wonderful. Truly. The reality is that no one who gets pregnant and stays pregnant into the third trimester decides to seek abortion out of convenience. It’s because something has gone devastatingly, heartbreakingly wrong.
And everyone deserves proper, safe medical care.
Getting pregnant and staying pregnant, safely, is difficult. It can and does go wrong all the time. But anti-abortion folks always focus on the rarest of instances and demonize them…instead of realizing that it’s another parent who wanted that child just as much as they did.
The rest of this garbage looks like a QAnon/anti-Semitic/incel/white supremacy Where’s Waldo…but kudos for fitting so much disgusting hateful head nods into one tweet, I guess. Way to go on this guy, GOP!
This is a perfect example of what moved @dananessel to create the first Hate Crimes & Domestic Terrorism Unit in any AGs office in the nation.
Update on the state of reproductive rights and abortion here in Michigan: Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Jacob Cunningham has indefinitely blocked the enforcement of Michigan's 1931 abortion ban - 1/ freep.com/story/news/pol…
referencing the possible amendment to the state Constitution as a result of the @mireprofreedom ballot initiative likely to be on the ballot this November, and the possibility that the Michigan state Supreme Court may rule on the Constitutionality of abortion at any time. 2/
Judge Cunningham said: "As currently applied, the court finds (the abortion law) is chilling and dangerous to our state's population of childbearing people and the medical professionals who care for them,” 3/
The @mireprofreedom petition initiative collected more signatures than any initiative in state history. Anti-choice groups know they’re on the wrong side of the issue so what are they doing? Trying to strip it from the ballot due to SPACING. michiganadvance.com/2022/08/18/opp…
The GOP-led legislature keeps pushing for our barbaric 1931 abortion ban to go into effect, arguing that debates about statutes should happen in the legislature, while they’ve refused FOR YEARS to take up our bills to repeal the 1931 law and effectively codify Roe.
Now they know an overwhelming majority of Michiganders support abortion access and reproductive rights…so they’re doing everything they can to stop you from being able to vote on it.
State legislatures are the frontlines for our freedoms, and they’re being destroyed by radical Republican extremists across the country. If we don’t take them back – starting with Michigan – we’ll lose everything. Here's a quick 🧵 for how you can help:
Here in Michigan, the Senate has been under Republican control since longer than I've been alive(!). But thanks to new, fair maps -- and the @MISenDems hard work -- it's now rated as one of the nation's top legislative chambers that can flip in November.
The stakes are high. If we don’t flip the Michigan Senate, and the Supreme Court applies the insane “independent state legislature doctrine,” we could lose more than just abortion access -- we could lose the White House and fair elections forever.
