Most people understand why Russia started its SMO. Only 20% of the world's population, the western minority, either don't understand it or choose not to understand it. The other 80% of the world's population, the majority, are fully aware of the history of Ukraine, the 2014 coup,
Ukraine's Nazi problem, the threat of NATO expansion into Ukraine, and Russia's red lines which were all crossed by US/NATO. And that is why they, the 80%, the majority, do not support western sanctions and other western anti-Russia initiatives.
President Putin has explained the reason behind Russia's SMO in a very simple and not complicated language for school children. My advice to that 20% of people who don't understand it and are genuinely confused about why Russia started its SMO

The dollar is essentially backed by the ability of the US to attack countries that threaten the dollar. The US attacked Iraq and Libya because they wanted to ditch the dollar and launch their own currency.
Now, BRICS (China, Russia, Brazil, India, and S. Africa) is trying to develop and launch its own currency. This is a serious threat to the dollar. If this happens, then the dollar and SWIFT will become useless.
So, what will the US do? Attack BRICS countries? Some people might say, "Yes, it will. The US will attack BRICS countries and start WWIII to protect the dollar."

The problem with heavy weapon systems, like HIMARS systems, is that you have to have air support and air defence systems to protect them, otherwise, you cant use them effectively, and the minute you use them, you will become a sitting duck,
the other side can easily locate them when you use them and quickly take them out. And as you may know, Ukraine's air force and much of its air defence systems have been almost completely destroyed.
And since these HIMARS systems are sophisticated systems, you can't just jump on them and use them, you will need properly trained operatives for these systems, and you will need a lot of practices and manoeuvres,

From the standpoint of the US, this is a perfect war, and the longer it lasts, the better. In the US proxy war against Russia, only the Ukrainians and the Russian are dying and suffering,
and the cost of arms supplied to Ukraine is probably going to be offset by increased NATO membership contributions. Obviously, the primary and first US objective was to bleed the Russian economy to death.
The second objective was to justify increased spending on their military budget. The third objective was to bury NS2 and sell expensive US gas to Europeans and make Europeans dependent on the US for their energy.
