It's a pity we have to drop busloads of illegals into the backyards of bubbled elites to get them to give a damn about the border crisis they created - but that's absolutely where we are. Decades of appealing to their sense of duty to the American people sure as hell didn't work.
For decades, the open-borders scam artists have acted like there is zero cost to dismantling border security, therefore anyone who objects to their policies must be an unthinking racist. They could not admit there was any downside to mass migration.
Remember Barack Obama sarcastically mocking people with concerns about border security, making dimwitted jokes about digging moats and filling them with alligators? That whole attitude was based on the idea that criticism of open borders was utterly irrational.
Remember when lefty hypocrites mumbled inane garbage about how the writing on the Statue of Liberty should override all U.S. immigration law? You were downright un-American if you had any problem with their reckless open borders policies. No rational debate was possible!
Lefty media works tirelessly to conceal the human cost of illegal immigration. Reporters throw themselves on stories of illegal alien crime like soldiers in a WW2 movie throwing themselves on live hand grenades. Only fringe lunatics care about even the most heinous murders!
All of this silly B.S. was possible because the costs of migration were dumped on border states the Left hates anyway. The elites were protected from all consequences. Most of the country was kept in the dark. Open borders HAS to look like a no-brainer, so nobody THINKS about it.
The ideology behind open borders goes far beyond the crass alliance between lefties who want to replace U.S. voters and business that want cheap labor. They also hate American sovereignty, and above all, they despise the idea that elite rulers have a duty to the people.
Today's political potentates would laugh themselves sick at the notion they have a "duty" to the grubby little people, especially the "deplorables." In no sense whatsoever do they view themselves as "public servants." You don't control them - THEY use power to change YOUR life.
What better way to express that sense of elite privilege, the transcendent power of the Anointed, than dissolving national borders by fiat and scoffing at the objections of the Little People? What better way to declare your superiority to the nation and its citizens?
Citizenship itself is a limit to the power of the elites, an obstacle to their ambitions. Citizenship places responsibilities on both the citizens AND their representatives. The proletariat cannot be allowed to invoke those responsibilities by demanding border security.
If we concede the American people have a right to decide how many people cross their borders, and what conditions they must meet - as soon as we accept that citizens are allowed to reject the burdens of mass migration without being "racists" - the power dynamic changes.
There aren't many issues where the position of the American people diverges so sharply from the elite as illegal immigration - and yet, the will of the vast majority has been ignored and subverted for decades. No matter what you demand or who you vote for, the border stays open.
That's one reason the political class went bananas over building a border wall, why they dropped every bomb in their rhetorical inventory on it. Walls are physical reality. They can't be subverted as easily. They're more than just the elite pretending to care about security.
All of this open-borders lunacy depends on the vital fiction that there are no reasonable objections to it. Zero cost, nothing but dreamers and "undocumented Americans." No real value to citizenship, no nation worth defending, no duties the State must fulfill to legal citizens.
So yes, it looks like the only way to bring attention to these issues was dumping a tiny fraction of illegals - 15 minutes worth of border crossings on a slow day - into the laps of Democrat elites. It turns out it was much more than a stunt - it was a revelation.
And along the way, we're forcing Dem potentates to admit their corrupt, incompetent, degenerate one-party regimes are absolutely incapable of handling a fraction of the costs that "red" border states deal with every damn day. /end

I love the new dumbass talking point that the people trying to prod Democrats into securing the border are inhumane. No, the open borders crowd are inhumane. Their system exposes millions of migrants to peril and abuse, and they care nothing for the suffering of U.S. citizens.
If giving a handful of people bus or plane rides to sanctuary cities finally shames our elites into doing their jobs and securing the border, the net gain to human health and safety on both sides of that border will be worthy of a Nobel Prize.
I know you open-borders loons try very, very hard not to think about how people are actually getting across the border, and what the gangsters who run human smuggling operations do to them, but reality doesn't go away because you refuse to believe in it.
The political problem facing pro-lifers is that many in their movement have deeply sincere beliefs on an issue that most people would rather not think about. Genuine conviction is not easily factored into careful political strategy.
It's not difficult to see that much of the public is uncomfortable with the Left's abortion extremism, especially now that veils are dropping and they can see just how extreme it is - but they're also not comfortable with total abortion bans.
The compromise, medium, or equilibrium position is not hard to discern. It's close to the restrictions present in most of the Western world, with America under Roe a very extreme outlier until now. The "popular consensus" varies a bit from state to state.
I'm old enough to remember Dems telling people to get excited over a couple of dollars "added" to paychecks by raiding Social Security.
What could the American people do with all the billions routinely wasted and stolen by our corrupt, comprehensively inept mega-government?
It's a cliche of leftist daydreamers to imagine how the fortunes of billionaires could be divided among "the people" if they were seized and redistributed. Absurdly, they never account for the titanic amounts that would be siphoned off in "overhead" by the mega-State.
"If only we could seize this billionaire's wealth and divide among the people, everyone in America would get $X!"
Oh, yeah? How much does everybody get after your corrupt and incompetent mega-State grabs over half that wealth right off the top, then takes even more later?
A major imperative for legal reform: hate crime hoaxes MUST be treated as hate crimes themselves, with all attendant prosecution, including steep penalties for media organizations that abandon all editorial standards in the mad dash to promote them.
It's absurd to talk about "restoring harmony" to society or "bringing Americans together" as long as hate crime hoaxes are a zero-cost, zero risk proposition, with riches and fame as rewards, and no downside whatsoever for the perpetrators. We've incentivized endless strife.
And as we can see from this case, there's an entire media industry dedicated to sensationalizing and propagating politically correct hate crimes, without even the slightest pretense of journalistic standards. There will be no integrity until these propaganda mills face real risk.
Republicans need to do more than remind voters how awful Dem governance has been. They also need to do more than provide alternative polices. If they want that midterm tidal wave to happen, they must offer a comprehensive vision of returning to normalcy and prosperity.
The Dem summer strategy has been shrewdly focused on making the Return to Normal seem impossible. Repubs stumbled into that trap more than a few times, with candidates who look like a different kind of weird instead of firm hands on the wheel that can set course back to Normal.
The net effect has been demoralizing to Republican voters and independents who hate what the Dems have done to their cities, states, and the country. They were made to feel that getting worked up for the midterms is pointless, while Dems are whipping their voters into a frenzy.
People who are truly concerned about fascism - or totalitarianism and authoritarianism, which are separate horrors that can flourish with or without fascism - should adamantly demand smaller government and greater protection for individual liberties. There is no other antidote.
This is how you know so much of the bleating about "fascism" or addle-pated mush about "semi-fascism" is utterly insincere: the people hurling the loudest allegations are also in favor of unlimited centralized power. They support all the things fascism cannot survive without.
A review of the past century suggests that Big Government inevitably trends toward fascism over time. Not only is centralized power an absolute pre-requisite for fascism to exist, but it's increasingly clear that centralized power inevitably metastasizes into fascism.
