Now, let's talk about Baker-Miller pink, otherwise known as the Drunk-Tank Pink - it was a colour designed to reduce aggression in male prisoners (thus the title drunk-tank pink) because it was proposed that the feminine connotation meant it was calming.

However, the initial test inmates only experienced short-term calm, and returned to feeling irate soon after. The paint effecting positive change in inmates was never replicated outside initial testing, and likely has little to no real effect.

However, this created both an association with pink as a negative, and it created a potentially even more damaging environment mentally for those inmates. When cells are all painted the exact same colour, that can be maddening - no stimuli, no diversity, just flat pink.

It's been said that some sports teams paint the locker rooms of the opposing team in this colour, and that models stare at it to supposedly stop feeling hungry.

Pink then becomes a feminine negative - the opposing team does worse because they were surrounded by soft, calming pink. The models develop eating disorders because they think the pink will stop them from eating. The prisoners are driven to madness in their pink cells.

I don't know what it says that #ff91af won. Without context, it's a soft, flowery pink, more red than purple, saturated but inoffensive. A colour made by mixing 1 gallon of pure white indoor latex paint with 1 pint of red trim semi-gloss outdoor paint in a bucket.

Everyone had different favourites to win (mine was #F88379) and it seems like a controversial victory, despite how consistently it beat out the competition. It's hard to say who was choosing it out of true love and who was picking the most average pink they could.
