The russian occupiers destroyed the monuments of the sacred art of the Polovtsians - the Polovtsian stone women (dating from the IX-XIII centuries), which are located on mount Kremenets near Izyum (now liberated)
Sanctuaries with effigies were a place for performing the memorial cult of ancestors, not directly related to burials. Many of the Polovtsian women depict men in particular.
Nikifor (Epiphany) Drovniak (1895-1968) is Ukrainian primitivist self-taught artist from Lemkiv origin. He had at least seventeen names under which he appeared in art history books. His creative legacy is tens of thousands of works.
The boy was hard of hearing and could not speak clearly. Most of all he liked to draw, he made sketches on scraps of paper.During the WW I, his mother died, and the boy was left alone. He has no friends, until his talent was discovered by the Ukrainian artist Roman Turin in 1930s
In 1947, during the "Visula" operation, Drovniak, like 140,575 Ukrainians, was forcibly evicted from ethnic lands in northwestern Poland and the territory of the Ukrainian SSR. The artist was sent to Szczecin four times, but each time he returned to his native home on foot.

The meaning of Dubovyk's work from the very beginning is full of thoughts about space, this is something that will become a constant in all his works to this day. It completely constructs the space of the picture.
