Switching gears. President Biden's interview on "60 Minutes" is airing now. Tune-in.
"It has been barbaric what he's done. His attacks on civilians and civilian hospitals and old age homes and schools... it's outrageous. The price the Ukrainian people are paying for this war is high. We're gonna stay with them."
-- President Biden, on Putin's war crimes
President Biden confirms he has not spoken to anyone or been briefed about the investigation into Trump stealing top secret classified documents. Basically establishes DOJ is acting independently, without his interference, as they should. Smart.
Pelley: Mr. President, you'd be the oldest incumbent to run for reelection.
Biden: Pretty good shape, huh?
Pelley: [summarizes position of those who believe he's too old to run again]
Biden: Watch me.
Excellent answer by the President. No hesitation.
Pres. Biden doesn't confirm he's running for reelection, cites concern over election laws for delaying decision publicly, but he basically communicates that's the direction he's headed.
"We passed the most extensive gun legislation in 30 years, but I'm not gonna rest until we get the assault weapons ban."
-- Pres. Biden
"I've had tragedies. I've lost part of my soul when I lost my son Beau. I lost my wife and daughter in an accident. I think of all the people who've gone through what I've gone through and without what I had. There are so many heroes getting up every day with no help."
"I ask myself: what would Beau want me to do?"
-- President Biden
I said it several weeks ago, and I'll say it again: Pres. Biden should absolutely run for reelection, and I firmly believe he'll win. Tonight's interview shows this man is in a second term mindset, and thank god for that.
Aaron Judge’s current home run total this season: 59
Needs…
+2 to tie Yankees + AL record
+3 to break Yankees + AL record
+14 to tie MLB record
+15 to break MLB record
Regular season games left: 16
He would damn near need to hit at least one home run in every game left. The MLB record for consecutive games with a home run is eight (Griffey, Jr. in '93, Mattingly in '87, Pirates in '56).
Possible? In theory, yeah, but probably not.
Adding to the complexity and emotional investment here is that Maris' 61 home runs in 1961 are widely considered the most clean home runs in a season (Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa all used steroids).
As you can see, this poor British Army soldier collapsed, and it might help to understand this is quite common in ceremonial units.
I was in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, which is the U.S. Army’s equivalent of this unit.

When you do ceremonies in units like these, you have to stand at attention, without moving, for a long period of time. You’re trained to not move a muscle, much less an inch, and of course, for various reasons, soldiers still pass out. But we called it “falling out”.
It’s not just locking your knees! That’s the most common reason for falling out, but it’s also other things: dehydration, heat stroke, sometimes exhaustion. I say that because “don’t lock your knees!” is an easy critique but doesn’t paint a full picture. Don’t judge this soldier!
Not even gonna lie: I had NO idea that Matthew Macfadyen has that accent. Zero clue.
Okay, so, here's the weird thing: I've seen "Pride and Prejudice (2005) many times, and I never think of him as in it, despite his playing Mr. Darcy. I don't know how to explain it. 😂
I didn’t know anyone who was killed, and I didn’t know anyone who knows anyone who was killed.
I was 14 and a high school freshman in Central Texas and over 1,700 miles away when it happened.

For my family, NYC was a place known to us only on television. It might as well have been on another planet for all the personal connection we had to it.
We were sad, we were scared, but we weren’t personally affected like the grieving people we saw on television for weeks after that, tearfully pleading direct-to-camera, begging those of us watching to let them know if we had seen their loved one.
President Biden's announcement today about student loan debt relief has upset some people who believe it's unfair. I acknowledge that resentment, and also, while we're on the subject of unfairness, I have some thoughts for your consideration. (thread)
I think it’s unfair that most children in poverty in this country will never receive the benefits of a quality early childhood education, either because they can’t afford it or don’t have access to it, leaving them with a development disadvantage compared to their peers.
I think it’s unfair that that most children in this country don’t have access to tutoring outside of school, meaning that, with each passing year, they fall further behind their peers whose families can afford tutoring.
