As the world turns to Westminster for the State Funeral of The Queen, a number of homages and tributes to Her Late Majesty are appearing across the globe 🌍
France, in particular, has been prominent in sharing its affection for the UK following the passing of the monarch, with French President Emmanuel Macron sharing an affectionate speech in the hours after news of her death was announced 🗣️
In Paris today, George V Métro station, on line 1, directly under the famous Champs-Elysées shopping street, has been renamed "Elizabeth II" in her honour 👑
The station's usual name, after The Late Queen's grandfather, has been displayed since 1920 when the station and a nearby street were formally renamed from "Alma" following the UK's support for France in World War I 🇫🇷🇬🇧
The honourable change will only be in place until the end of today's service on Line 1 at 1.04am local time, with one in two signs given the temporary renaming as to not confuse regular travellers too much 🚇
Although the station is partially staffed, there are no staff usually on the platforms or trains at the station as Line 1 was converted to fully automated driverless operation around a decade ago ❌👥
