619. CYBORG COP - David Bradley & John Rhys-Davies star in this Grade Z action film. It’s more fun if you’re drinking or watching with a group! It also helps if your prefer a hero with a Fanny pack! 
620. POLICE ACADEMY - It’s been a couple of decades since I watched this classic 80’s comedy about a bunch of misfits who join the police academy. Of course I enjoyed it! 😁
621. TOWER HEIST - Ben Stiller leads a group of defrauded employees on a quest to steal back their money from the corrupt Alan Alda. This fun heist movie features a hilarious turn by Eddie Murphy. I’m a big fan of this movie!
622. RAW DEAL - When I was a teenager I really liked Schwarzenegger so I saw this movie 10-20 times. It’s not great, but it’s an enjoyable action flick about a small town sheriff who goes undercover to infiltrate the mob & get those responsible for the murder of his friend’s son.
623. CAPE FEAR - The original classic about a psychopath out to get the guy who put him away. Robert Mitchum & Gregory Peck are excellent in this thriller that also costars the likes of Telly Savalas & Martin Balsam. One of my favorite directors, J. Lee Thompson, was at the helm!
624. SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO - A gunfighter arrives in a town being ripped apart by two brutal gangs & goes about righting wrongs. Basically a reworking of the Yojimbo/Fistful of Dollars story, but with a wild & crazy spin from Japanese Director Takashi Miike.
625. PREDATOR - One of my favorite action movies of my teenage years, Predator is one Arnold Schwarzenegger’s best! Classic 80’s!
626. ANGEL EYES - We didn’t know anything about “Angel Eyes” other than it starred Jennifer Lopez & Jim Caviezel. It turned out to be a pretty good romantic drama about 2 people who are messed up by their pasts, but who just may be perfect for each other.
627. PREDATOR 2 - I’ve always liked this sequel to the Schwarzenegger classic. Danny Glover takes over the lead as the Predators come to hunt to in the violent streets of LA!
628. TRUE LIES - James Cameron directs this film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger & Jamie Lee Curtis. Arnold’s a spy who’s convinced his wife that he’s a boring salesman. His wife dreams of more adventure. They both get more than they bargained for in this hilarious adventure!
629. KUFFS - Christian Slater is George Kuffs. He visits his brother to see if he’ll give him some money. While he’s visiting, his brother is shot & Kuffs stays around to try to get the killer. I hadn’t seen this movie in 30 years. It’s enjoyable, especially if you like Slater.
630. FEAR - Reese Witherspoon walks a little on the wild side & meets bad boy Mark Wahlberg, much to her dad’s chagrin. Turns out Mark is a complete psycho & her whole family is put in danger when she breaks it off. As a dad to a 16 year old girl, this is my worst nightmare!
631. PERFECT STRANGER - Halle Berry is a reporter who goes undercover to try to find out if millionaire Bruce Willis is responsible for the murder of her childhood friend. Twisted ending.
632. ANGEL UNCHAINED - I read a book about the blue collar character actor Jordan Rhodes so I watched this biker movie from 1970. Don Stroud enlists his biker buddies to help protect a hippie commune from some bigoted rednecks. Jordan is one of the rednecks in this average flick.
633. UNFORGIVEN - One of the great movies, “Unforgiven” won 4 Oscars, including Best Picture & Director, & is a jewel in the crown of Clint Eastwood’s career. Simply put, it’s one of my personal favorites. Highest possible recommendation!
634. THE GUNFIGHTER - Gregory Peck plays a notorious gunfighter who lives every day with the knowledge that someday he’ll run into someone even faster than him. He makes a HUGE commotion when he comes into a town wanting to see the woman he loves & his son. Classic 50’s western!
635. LITTLE RITA OF THE WEST - Have you ever seen a spaghetti western musical comedy? Well here’s one starring Rita Pavone & Terence Hill. It’s a crazy viewing experience! 🤣
636. OLD SCHOOL - One of my favorite comedies, Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn & Will Ferrell are at their funniest as 30-ish year old guys who start a fraternity. From Director Todd Phillips, who would have an even bigger hit a few years later with The Hangover!
637. ANGEL AND THE BADMAN - Classic western tale of a gunman who must decide between his way of life & the love of a good & beautiful woman. This is one of the first John Wayne movies I ever saw when I was a kid. Very good western!
638. STAND ALONE - Charles Durning is a World War II vet who witnesses a murder & is pressed by the police to identify the killers. Turns out the killers are members of a drug cartel & are soon out to kill our hero. Solid 80’s vigilante film also stars the beautiful Pam Grier.
639. RAISING ARIZONA - Nicolas Cage & Holly Hunter are a happily married couple who want to have a baby. Unfortunately, her insides are a rocky place where his seed can find no purchase. So kidnapping is the only rational answer in this classic 80’s comedy from the Coen Brothers.
640. O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? - One of my favorite movies! This tale of 3 escaped convicts on an odyssey across Mississippi is full of quirky characters, great music & beautiful “si-reens.” George Clooney, John Turturro & Tim Blake Nelson are perfect in this Coen Brothers gem!
641. MILLER’S CROSSING - I’ve always loved this Coen Brothers take on the gangster genre. Gabriel Byrne is smart, Albert Finney is a badass, John Turturro is a weasel & of course, Jon Polito has his “ettics.” Excellent!
642. BLOOD SIMPLE - An unfaithful wife & her boyfriend are marked for death by a jealous husband in the feature film debut of the Coen Brothers. Sleazy P.I. & wannabe killer for hire M. Emmet Walsh steals this excellent movie!
643. MICHAEL CLAYTON - George Clooney is a fixer for a top law firm. One of their top attorneys, the lead on one of their top cases, has gone off the deep end. Clooney’s called in to get things back on track. There’s more to the case than meets the eye in this excellent thriller.
644. THE BIG LEBOWSKI - Jeff Bridges is a slacker named Lebowski, but he goes by “the Dude.” After seeking restitution for a rug ruined by debt collectors, he finds himself trying to find the missing wife of a millionaire, also named Lebowski. Fun Coen Brothers movie!
645. NIGHTHAWKS - Sylvester Stallone & Billy Dee Williams are 2 NYC cops assigned to a special task force to capture international terrorist Rutger Hauer, in his Hollywood film debut. Excellent action flick!
646. DEAD FOR A DOLLAR - Legendary Walter Hill directs this enjoyable western about a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) out to retrieve the wife of a businessman who’s been abducted by a black army deserter. That’s the story he’s been told anyway. Dedicated to Budd Boetticher.
647. ONE FALSE MOVE - Billy Bob Thornton wrote this excellent crime film about bad guys who steal drugs in LA before heading to their girlfriends hometown of Star City, AR. Bill Paxton is the sheriff of Star City who has a past with the girlfriend. One of the best films of 1992.
648. OPEN RANGE - In my opinion, this western from 2003 is the best western of the 21st century. Robert Duvall & Kevin Costner, who also directed, have never been better! Highest recommendation!
649. ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 - The original John Carpenter classic about a group of folks comprised of a cop, two criminals & a secretary who defend a police station against a violent street gang. Part Rio Bravo & part Night of the Living Dead, this is one of Carpenter's best!
650. BLACK EAGLE - Sho Kosugi & Jean-Claude Van Damme star in this slow action movie. To be honest, the Malta scenery was probably the best part of this one. I love JCVD & he was imposing in his role, but he's not really in the movie that much.
651. HOUSE OF WAX - Vincent Price is a talented & principled wax sculptor who’s double-crossed by his partner & horribly burned. Unfortunately his sanity doesn’t survive & he’ll do anything to have the perfect wax figures. Popular 3D horror film features a young Charles Bronson.
652. THE QUICK AND THE DEAD - Sharon Stone rides into a town controlled by an evil Gene Hackman with vengeance on her mind. There’s also a dueling tournament going on that features Russell Crowe & a very young Leonardo DiCaprio. Sam Raimi directs this stylish western.
653. RUSH HOUR 2 - Jackie Chan’s detective Lee is trying to bring down the triad responsible for his father’s death. Chris Tucker’s detective Carter just wants a vacation in Hong Kong & some mushu. Excellent & hilarious follow up to the original smash hit.
654. LAND OF THE LOST - A space-time vortex sucks a scientist, his assistant & a survivalist into a world populated by dinosaurs & painfully slow creatures called Sleestaks. This comic version of the 70’s TV series known for its bad special effects has its share of funny moments!
655. YES MAN - Jim Carrey is in a rut until he goes to a seminar that encourages him to say YES to any request made of him. Once he does, everything in his life starts getting better, at least for a while. This is a personal favorite!! Zooey Deschanel is awfully appealing.
656. AVENGING FORCE - It’s Michael Dudikoff’s birthday, so I’ll be watching some of his Cannon classics this weekend! Thanks @BulletproofPod for the reminder. I’m starting with my favorite! Dudikoff / James, a match made in heaven.
657. AMERICAN NINJA - Next up, an American soldier, played by birthday boy Michael Dudikoff of course, is very skilled in martial arts & single-handedly takes on mercenaries in the Philippines. Well, in all honesty, Steve James is on hand to help as well!
658. THE SHOOTER - The Michael Dudikoff birthday fun continues. Cowboy Michael Atherton intervenes on behalf of a prostitute, Wendy, who is being terrorized by a gang of thugs. He guns down the attackers and shepherds her to safety. Andrew Stevens & Randy Travis costar.
659. SNOWBEAST - Clint Walker & Bo Svenson battle a Snowbeast. If that sounds appealing to you, this is your movie. Wal Mart was selling this cheap on VHS back in the mid 80’s so it was one of the first movies I ever bought.
660. NIGHT OF THE GRIZZLY - Clint Walker, a retired lawman, leads his family to their new home & land in Wyoming. Unfortunately, a grizzly bear nicknamed Satan is terrorizing his farm as well as those surrounding him. Clint has to go get him. It’s a good movie.
661. RIVER OF DEATH - Michael Dudikoff gets a chance to play in the Indiana Jones sandbox in this Cannon flick about an adventurer searching for a lost city in the Amazon jungle. Old pros Donald Pleasance & Robert Vaughn co-star as a couple of Nazis. Formulaic but enjoyable.
662. THE STRANGER WORE A GUN - Randolph Scott thinks he’s a wanted man & flees to Arizona. Once there he runs into a man who knows of his past & uses that against him. Directed by Andre De Toth in 3-D, who had directed the enormously popular HOUSE OF WAX in 3-D the same year.
663. CASINO - Martin Scorsese directs this masterpiece about the mob control over Vegas in the early days. De Niro & Pesci are perfect as usual. But Sharon Stone’s performance is a revelation & @RealJamesWoods has one of his best “low-life” roles.
664. MEET THE PARENTS - Does anyone make more uncomfortable comedy than Ben Stiller? The lengths he goes to impress his girlfriend’s dad, played by a game Robert De Niro, produce many funny & cringeworthy moments.
665. MARTIAL OUTLAW - Kevin White (Jeff Wincott) & his brother Jack (Gary Hudson) have a lot in common. Both fighters, both cops & both on the same case. But when it comes to busting a Russian drug ring, they're playing on different sides. Fun “B” martial arts movie.
666. DEATH RACE - Ex-con Jensen Ames (Jason Statham) is forced by the warden of a notorious prison to compete in the world's most popular sport: a car race in which inmates must brutalize & kill one another on the road to victory. I’ve always enjoyed this somewhat brutal film.
667. WEDDING CRASHERS - It’s all fun & games until you fall in love! I love this comedy starring Owen Wilson & Vince Vaughn about a couple of guys who crash weddings every year in order to score with romantically vulnerable women.
668. DELIVERANCE - The classic action film about a group of friends, led by Burt Reynolds & Jon Voight, who get more than they bargained for when they float a beautiful river about to be damned up & turned into a lake. The opening Dueling Banjos number remains a sight to behold!
669. ACCIDENT MAN - Scott Adkins plays a hitman who makes his hits look like accidents or suicide. He's in a gang of hitmen, each with his own style. When his ex is killed, he goes after those responsible. It’s a good, hard hitting action flick!
670. RE-ANIMATOR - After a new medical student arrives on campus, a dedicated local & his girlfriend become involved in experiments concerning the re-animation of dead tissue. This is the first time I’ve seen this horror film. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before.
671. GLADIATOR - Russell Crowe is one of the great actors of the 21st century & Gladiator is an incredible movie. Highest recommendation!
672. ROBIN HOOD - I enjoy Russell Crowe. As such I enjoy most everything he’s in. In this movie, he’s Robin Longstride. His band of marauders confront corruption in a local village & lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. Very good!
673. MEN IN BLACK - I remember really enjoying this movie at the theater in the late 90’s. Tommy Lee Jones is one of the greats & Will Smith had emerged as a box office superstar. This is a fun blockbuster & I enjoyed it again today.
674. GERONIMO: AN AMERICAN LEGEND - The story of the Apache chief & his armed resistance to the U.S. Government's subjugation of his people. Wes Studi, Jason Patric, Matt Damon, Gene Hackman & Robert Duvall star. Walter Hill directs. Good movie!
675. ZORRO - French cinematic legend Alain Delon plays Zorro in this film from 1975. A new Spanish governor finds his province under the iron fist of the corrupt Colonel Huerta & vows to bring justice under the guise of a masked avenger. Campy & fun!

682. SHANGHAI KNIGHTS - Jackie Chan & Owen Wilson make their way to London to avenge the murder of Chan’s estranged father. While I liked “Noon” a little better, “Knights” is a fun movie thanks to the wonderful chemistry of the two stars!
683. SHANE - Alan Ladd’s signature role as Shane, a gunfighter in Wyoming who hopes for a quieter life after befriending a homestead family with a young son who idolizes him. Unfortunately, he’s drawn into a battle between the townsfolk & a ruthless cattle baron. Classic western!
684. MASTER & COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD - During the Napoleonic Wars, a British captain pushes his crew to their limits in pursuit of a French war ship around South America. Russell Crowe & Paul Bettany are outstanding in this excellent film directed by Peter Weir.
685. THE CINCINNATI KID - Steve McQueen wants to be the “man,” the top gambler in the game. He has to take down Edward G. Robinson who’s currently the man. Karl Malden, Rip Torn, Tuesday Weld & Ann-Margret all figure in his quest in this fine gambling film set in New Orleans!
686. THE WAY WEST - A former U.S. Senator, played by Kirk Douglas, organizes a wagon train of settlers & heads towards Oregon, but his megalomania leads to growing dissatisfaction with his leadership. Robert Mitchum is the scout who leads them on the way. Good movie.
687. AMERICAN NINJA 2: THE CONFRONTATION - Army Ranger Joe Armstrong investigates the disappearance of several marines, which leads him to The Lion, a super-criminal who has kidnapped a local scientist & produced an army of mutant Ninja warriors. Cheesy & fun Cannon classic!
688. USED CARS - Kurt Russell is a used car salesman who dreams of being a state senator. Jack Warden plays twin brothers, one who owns the dealership where Kurt works & the other who wants to steal it from him. Hilarious comedy ensues in this film from Director Robert Zemeckis!
689. TENDER MERCIES - Robert Duvall gives an authentic, Oscar winning performance as an alcoholic who used to be a popular country music singer & songwriter. This slice of life drama follows him as he puts his life back together in a small town in Texas with a new wife & stepson.
690. WINTER’S BONE - Jennifer Lawrence is tough-as-nails as a 17 year old girl in the Ozark Mountains. Her drug dealing dad put their house up for a bond & went missing. She has to find him or they’ll be thrown out. Her search leads to some dark & dangerous places. Excellent!
691. JUNIOR BONNER - Steve McQueen is a rodeo man who heads to Prescott, AZ to compete in their Frontier Days rodeo as well as connect with his family. Robert Preston, Ida Lupino & Joe Don Baker co-star in this film from director Sam Peckinpah. I’d love to visit Prescott someday!
692. DAY OF ANGER - This classic spaghetti western features Lee Van Cleef as a famous gunfighter who takes on a bullied young man as a pupil. Unfortunately, the stage is set for a showdown when the young man sees his “hero’s” true colors in this enjoyable film.
693. THE NAKED GUN - Leslie Nielsen is perfect as Lt. Frank Drebin of police squad. Our clueless hero is tasked with protecting the Queen of England from an assassin while she’s on a visit to the United States. One of my favorite comedies of all time!
694. THE NAKED GUN 2 1/2: THE SMELL OF FEAR - Lt. Frank Drebin is back, this time trying to rescue an expert on renewable energy; and his relationship with Jane of course. More hijinks, some hilarious & others just plain silly, but I love these movies!
695. THE CHRISTMAS CABIN - Our family has its own Christmas cabin & some of my personal favorite memories have been there. That made this Christmas romance a little more special for me.
696. THE LIMEY - Terence Stamp is a total badass in this film about a career criminal from England who comes to LA to find out why his daughter was killed. Directed by Steve Soderbergh, I highly recommend this one. What’s even better, it’s less than 90 minutes!
697. SEXY BEAST - Ray Winstone is a retired Brit thief, living his best life in Spain. Extreme bully Ben Kingsley comes to Spain to force him to do another job. Needless to say, things don’t really go as anyone planned. Excellent British crime film. Kingsley is scary mean!
698. SLOW WEST - A young Scottish man travels across America in pursuit of the woman he loves, attracting the attention of an gunslinger who is willing to serve as his guide. This solid, revisionist western is a good theatrical debut for director John Maclean.
699. FRUITVALE STATION - The last day in the life of Oscar Grant is played out in this heartbreaking film from Director Ryan Coogler. Michael B. Jordan is excellent as Oscar. This is an important movie that should be seen even though it’s hard to watch.
700. SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED - 3 reporters from Seattle travel to a small town to write a story about a guy who put an ad in the paper that asked if anyone wanted “to go back in time with me.” An excellent indie romantic comedy with a sci fi twist. Highly recommended!
701. EDWARD SCISSORHANDS - An artificial man, who has scissors for hands, leads a solitary life. Then one day, a suburban lady meets him and introduces him to her world. Johnny Depp & Winona Ryder star is this touching film from the mind of Tim Burton.
702. FULL MOON HIGH - Adam Arkin is a popular high school football player who becomes a werewolf after a trip to Romania & struggles to come to terms with his new reality. This crazy werewolf spoof costars Ed McMahon, Alan Arkin, Pat Morita & even Jim J. Bullock!
703. PERFECT WITNESS - A witness to a mob killing has second thoughts about testifying when he realizes his family might become a target. Brian Dennehy, Stockard Channing & Aidan Quinn are excellent in the HBO movie from 1989.
704. BURNT OFFERINGS - A family moves into a large old mansion in the countryside which seems to have a mysterious & sinister power over its new residents. I’m about to watch this creepy movie starring Oliver Reed & Karen Black for the first time with #FridayHeretics! Join us!
705. PHONE BOOTH - A publicist, who spends his days lying to everyone around him, is called on his deceptions (literally & figuratively) when he steps into a phone booth in NYC. Colin Farrell & Kiefer Sutherland’s voice are phenomenal in this tense, 81 minute thriller!
706. ROPE - One of the greats, Jimmy Stewart, stars in this Hitchcock classic about two self-superior young men who try to pull off the perfect murder. Their arrogance leads them to throw a dinner party with the victim’s family, the body & their wily old professor. Excellent!
707. CELLULAR - Thanks for the recommendation @USAFSparky! We enjoyed this thriller where Kim Basinger & her son are kidnapped by bad guy Jason Statham. Her only hope comes when she’s able to call Chris Evans who comes to her rescue. William H. Macy is great in a supporting role!
708. BLUE RUIN - This alternately quiet & brutal film packs a real punch as a beachfront vagrant embarks on a quest for revenge against the man who killed his parents. His plan unfortunately puts his estranged family in danger. Macon Blair is excellent.
709. MAN ON A LEDGE - The story of an ex-cop who breaks out of jail, checks into a hotel & then steps out on the ledge. Excitement ensues! We hadn’t seen this one before & really enjoyed it, especially the excellent cast!
710. TWILIGHT - Paul Newman is A retired detective who accepts a simple task, unaware that it will tear open old, forgotten, but deadly wounds. This solid thriller has an amazing cast that includes Gene Hackman, James Garner, Susan Sarandon, Stockard Channing & Reese Witherspoon.
711. THE SCORE - An aging thief hopes to retire and live off his ill-gotten wealth when a young kid convinces him into doing one last heist. Robert DeNiro & Edward Norton are excellent!
712. RANSOM - Mel Gibson stars in this remake of the 50’s classic with Glenn Ford. Gibson’s son is kidnapped & he refuses to pay the ransom because he truly believes this is the only way to save his son. Gary Sinise is excellent as the bad guy in this tense thriller.
713. LIGHT BLAST - Erik Estrada is trying to stop a group of terrorists who melt peoples’ faces off in San Francisco. This movie is exactly what you think it might be based on that description, which made it lots of fun to watch with the #MondayActionMovie crowd!
714. THE FOG - An unearthly fog rolls into a small coastal town exactly 100 years after a ship mysteriously sank in its waters. Adrienne Barbeau & Jamie Lee Curtis in the same scary movie is fun casting, especially looking back after all these years.
715. FATHERLAND - In a world where the Nazis won World War II, An S.S. homicide detective & an American journalist stumble into a plot to destroy all evidence of the Nazi genocide. Rutger Hauer & Miranda Richardson are excellent in this alternate reality thriller.
716. THE BLOOD OF HEROES - A post-apocalyptic world provides the backdrop for a futuristic game resembling football. Rutger Hauer plays a former star leading a group to one of the remaining cities for a shot at glory and redemption. Underrated movie from the writer of UNFORGIVEN!
717. ESCAPE FROM SOBIBOR - German death camp in Sobibor, Poland, killed two hundred fifty thousand Jews. It had the most successful prisoner escape in World War II on October 14, 1943. Rutger Hauer, Alan Arkin & Joanna Pacula lead an excellent cast in this sobering TV movie.
718. THE SUMMER OF BEN TYLER - James Woods is Temple Rayburn, an attorney who lives and works in a small Southern community in 40’s. This Hallmark movie tackles racism & certainly has it’s share of powerful moments.
719. HOMBRE - John Russell, played by Paul Newman, is disdained by his "respectable" fellow stagecoach passengers because he was raised by Native Americans. Of course their tunes begin changing when he is their only hope for survival after being set upon by outlaws. Very good!
720. 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU - A pretty, popular teenager can't go out on a date until her ill-tempered older sister does. Heath Ledger & Julia Stiles are excellent!
721. RIDDICK - Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet & facing more mean aliens, anti-hero Riddick activates an emergency beacon alerting two ships: one carrying mercenaries & the other being captained by a man from Riddick's past. I’ve always been a fan of Vin Diesel as Riddick!
722. THE IMPOSSIBLE - Wow! I stumbled across this movie on HBO at the hotel this morning. I’d never really even heard of it. It’s the harrowing true story of a family caught in a tsunami in Thailand. The actors are great & a young Tom Holland is magnificent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
723. BREACH OF FAITH: A FAMILY OF COPS II - In this sequel to "A Family of Cops", Inspector Paul Fein (Charles Bronson) & his family of cops take on the Russian Mafia after a popular local priest is murdered. Old pro Bronson & Joe Penny, as his detective son, are solid as usual.
724. FAMILY OF COPS III: UNDER SUSPICION - Police Inspector Paul Fein & his detective son investigate the murder of a banker. Of course lots of other family issues are going on as well. This is the final film of legendary Charles Bronson & my personal favorite in the series.
725. DONOVAN’S REEF - On the beautiful island of Haleakaloha, John Wayne, Lee Marvin & Jack Warden find time for brawling & deception in this lighthearted film from director John Ford. They also find different kinds of love when Warden’s daughter arrives on the island. Fun movie!
726. TIGHTROPE - Clint Eastwood is a cop in New Orleans who takes a walk on the wild side to catch a serial killer. Excellent, noir-ish Eastwood cop film.
727. THE BODYGUARD FROM BEIJING - A Chinese bodyguard is sent to help two Hong Kong cops protect a witness to murder. Complications arise when the bodyguard & the witness must confront their deep feelings for one another. Jet Li is particularly impressive in the action scenes.
728. MAN ON FIRE - Denzel Washington is a damaged man who learns to love again when he serves as a bodyguard for Dakota Fanning. When she’s kidnapped, he’ll do anything to get her back. Excellent performance by Washington in this alternately brutal & touching film.
729. SCORPIO - In honor of Alain Delon's birthday, I decided to watch this thriller with Burt Lancaster. During the Cold War, the CIA orders free-lance operative Scorpio to kill his former CIA mentor Cross & a deadly cat-and-mouse game ensues. Solid film!
730. LE SAMOURAI - On Alain Delon’s 87th birthday I decided to revisit my favorite movie of his! He’s a hitman who’s spotted by witnesses when he pulls a job. His alibi holds, but the police are after him & his employer wants him dead. Delon’s the epitome of cool in this classic!
731. LE CERCLE ROUGE - The final Alain Delon birthday celebration movie is this crime classic from Director Jean-Pierre Melville. After leaving prison, master thief Corey teams up with a notorious escapee & an alcoholic former policeman to plot an elaborate heist. Excellent!!
732. SHAMUS - Burt Reynolds is a private eye named Shamus who's paid $10,000 to find some stolen diamonds. Burt is very good in this type of role, funny but tough & serious when he needs to be. Very enjoyable film!
733. COWBOY - An greenhorn from Chicago (Jack Lemmon) is taken on a cattle drive by trail boss Tom Reece (Glenn Ford), but he soon discovers that cowboy life isn't really what he thought it was. Enjoyable western with an excellent cast, directed by Delmer Daves.
734. MONEY PLAY$ - When a money mule has a heart attack at a Vegas brothel, the cash in his money vest is hidden by Irene (Sonia Braga). She calls her regular customer Johnny (Roy Scheider) & they hatch a scheme to split the cash. Complications ensue. I’m a big fan of Scheider.
735. THE KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE - A series of short & often tasteless skits from the writers of Airplane & The Naked Gun. Some skits are funnier than others, but all in all this is some really funny stuff.
736. APACHE RIFLES - A cavalry officer (Audie Murphy) is assigned the job of bringing in a band of Apaches who have been terrorizing the countryside. I’m a big fan of war hero turned actor Audie Murphy, whose birthplace is only a couple of hours from our house! Good movie.
737. LAWMAN - A lawman arrives in town to arrest the cattlemen whose wild celebration the year before resulted in the accidental death of an old man. What a cast, Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Lee J. Cobb, Robert Duvall & Sheree North. Michael Winner directed this solid western.
738. LAST EMBRACE - I’m honoring Roy Scheider on what would have been his 90th birthday. First up is this “Hitchcockian” thriller about a government agent who’s life is spiraling out of control after the death of his wife. It seems someone wants him dead too. Good movie!
739. STILL OF THE NIGHT - The Roy Scheider celebration continues as a Manhattan psychiatrist (Scheider) probes a patient's murder & falls for the victim's mysterious mistress (Meryl Streep). Solid thriller benefits greatly from the great cast!
740. 52 PICK-UP - Roy Scheider’s a successful businessman who finds himself being blackmailed when he has an affair with a beautiful young woman. Ann-Margret plays his gorgeous wife & John Glover excels as the head blackmailer in this 1986 thriller from Cannon films.
741. MCBAIN - I remember renting this movie on VHS back when I was in high school. Christopher Walken is a former Vietnam War lieutenant who gets his old team together to help a revolutionary's sister overthrow a ruthless dictator. Somewhat average B movie.
742. THE SOLDIER - This movie played on our local FOX16 channel constantly when I was a kid. When terrorists take over a plutonium bomb & threaten to detonate it in a Saudi Arabian oil field, a special anti-terrorist unit led by Ken Wahl is sent in to stop them.
743. THE DEPARTED - Since today is Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday, I decided to watch one of my favorite movies. This reimagining of the Hong Kong classic Infernal Affairs set in Boston is excellent & finally won Martin Scorsese the best director Oscar. Highly recommended!
744. ARMAGEDDON - The best oil driller in the world, Bruce Willis, is tasked with saving the world in this action / disaster extravaganza from Director Michael Bay. Enjoyable summer popcorn flick loaded with action & laughs & an amazing cast!
745. LASERBLAST - A teenager stumbles upon an alien weapon, which transforms him into a grotesque killer. This movie is at his best when there is unrestrained laser blasting being depicted on screen. This is a good movie to watch with friends! You can’t help but have a good time.
746. EL MARIACHI - A traveling mariachi is mistaken for a murderous criminal & must hide from a gang bent on killing him. Amazingly, Director Robert Rodriguez made this action packed movie for $7,000 & has gone on to have a good career in Hollywood.
747. BIG GUNS / NO WAY OUT - Badass French actor Alain Delon wants to retire from the mob. His bosses don’t like the idea. When tragedy occurs, the bosses find themselves targets of his revenge. Good Eurocrime film features several stars of genre & many bloody shootouts!
748. DEATH RAGE - A retired hit-man (Yul Brynner) decides to take one last job to avenge the murder of his brother. An eager would-be mobster helps him. Not Brynner’s best, but there are some good violent shootouts & a cast that includes Martin Balsam & Barbara Bouchet!
749. AMBULANCE - Two brothers, one in desperate need of money & the other who likes the rush, rob a bank in LA. The robbery is interrupted by half the cops in the city so they hijack an ambulance & try to escape. Michael Bay directs this exciting action flick!
750. NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION - Clark Griswold takes his family on a cross-country vacation from Chicago to California. Classic scenes include the theft of hubcaps in St. Louis, cousin Eddie, 50 ft. car jumps in Monument Valley & busting their way in to Wally World! Hilarious!
751. VEGAS VACATION - The Griswolds go to Vegas & everything goes to hell! Enjoyable movie features some funny scenes involving cousin Eddie & Clark visiting a different kind of casino & Wayne Newton’s continued advances on Ellen!
752. RISKY BUSINESS - Tom Cruise is a high school student whose life is turned upside down when his parents go out of town. Featuring Tom’s classic rendition of old time rock n roll, this movie went a long way to putting him on the road to superstardom.
753. THE BREAK-UP - Vince Vaughn & Jennifer Aniston are a couple who own a condo together. When they break up, they continue to live together, but things get really ugly. Sierra loves this movie, but it’s kind of hard for me to watch. There are lots of feelings to deal with.
754. THE FULL MONTY - A group of unemployed steel workers need money so they decide to put on a striptease show. They’re not particularly attractive or in good shape, but what they lack in aesthetic appeal, they make up for in ambition! Funny & with a big heart, I love this one.
755. BILLY ELLIOT - I love this movie about a young boy whose family is in a bad situation after the death of his mother & the miners strike that his dad & brother are involved in. His only bright spot is his unexpected love & gift for dancing. There are big emotions in this one.
756. TRAINSPOTTING - Wow! I hadn’t watched this since the late 90’s. What a repulsive & strangely exhilarating movie. I don’t think I was ready for it when I first saw it, but watching it again some 25 years later, I appreciated the depth of Danny Boyle’s vision. Great cast!
757. TRUE BELIEVER - James Woods is electric as lawyer Eddie Dodd, who takes the case of a Korean man who has spent 8 years in jail for a murder he says he didn’t commit. Robert Downey Jr. is excellent as Dodd’s associate. Probably my personal favorite @RealJamesWoods movie!
758. SHAUN OF THE DEAD - The uneventful, aimless lives of a London electronics salesman & his layabout roommate are disrupted by the zombie apocalypse. Simon Pegg & Nick Frost are hilarious in this film from Director Edgar Wright!
759. MIDNIGHT RIDE - A housewife picks up a hitchhiker who happens to be a psychotic killer. Michael Dudikoff & Mark Hamill star in this B Movie. Legendary actor Robert Mitchum also cashes a check for a glorified cameo. Hamill does seem to be having a ball chewing up the scenery.
760. STRIPES - Two friends (Bill Murray & Harold Ramis) who are dissatisfied with their jobs decide to join the army. This is one of those movies I saw I a lot on our local fox affiliate when I was a kid & I always thought it was hilarious. John Candy & Warren Oates costar.
761. THE JUDGE - A big-city lawyer (Robert Downey, Jr.) returns to his hometown where his dad (Robert Duvall), the town's judge, is suspected of murder. Downey defends his dad & reconnects with his estranged family along the way. Excellent cast includes Billy Bob Thornton.
762. CROUPIER - An aspiring writer (Clive Owen) is hired as a croupier at a casino & he realizes that his life as a croupier would make a great novel. This is the first movie that I remember seeing Clive Owen in & I thought he was so good that I started searching out his work.
763. VALDEZ IS COMING - A Mexican-American sheriff (Burt Lancaster) must resort to violence against a powerful rancher in order to get just compensation for the pregnant Indian widow of a wrongly killed black man. Solid early 70’s western starring cinematic legend Burt Lancaster!
764. THE NAKED GUN 33 1/3: THE FINAL INSULT - Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) comes out of retirement to help Police Squad infiltrate a gang of terrorists planning to detonate a bomb at the Academy Awards. The Academy Awards sequence is absolutely hilarious!
765. MILE 22 - A small team of elite American intelligence officers, part of a top-secret tactical command unit, try to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of Indonesia. Stylish & brutal.
766. CHIPS - An inexperienced rookie is teamed up with a hardened pro at the California Highway Patrol in Los Angeles; the newbie officer soon learns his partner is really an undercover Fed investigating a heist which may involve some crooked cops. Crude with some funny moments.
767. LEFT BEHIND: THE MOVIE - The Rapture instantly takes all believers in Christ from the Earth & a reporter who is left behind learns that the Anti-Christ will soon take power. Kirk Cameron & the late Brad Johnson star in this movie based on the popular series of books.
768. LEFT BEHIND II: TRIBULATION FORCE - After the Rapture & the revealing of the Antichrist, a group of converts form the Tribulation Force, a secret society with the sole purpose of converting non-believers to Christianity. The popular series continues again with Kirk Cameron.
769. HIGHLANDER - An immortal Scottish swordsman must confront his murderous immortal opponent. Christopher Lambert & Sean Connery star!
770. THE DUKES OF HAZZARD - Bo, Luke, Daisy & uncle Jesse are a source of endless frustration for the authorities of Hazzard County, Boss Hogg & Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane. This goofy take on one of my favorite childhood TV shows has some funny moments. Burt Reynolds is Boss Hogg.
771. THE TRANSPORTER - Frank Martin transports packages for unknown clients & follows his own specific set of rules. When one of his packages turns out to be a lady in a bag, complications arise. Jason Statham stars is this enjoyable action movie that launched a franchise.
772. CRIMSON TIDE - On a U.S. nuclear missile sub, a First Officer stages a mutiny to prevent his Captain from launching his missiles before confirming the orders to do so. Powerhouse performances from Denzel Washington & Gene Hackman elevate this movie to greatness!
773. FLASH POINT - A hot-headed inspector takes on a small but powerful Vietnamese-Chinese gang, after a series of crimes & murder attempts committed put an undercover cop & his girlfriend in great danger. Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen is amazing!
774. EVE OF DESTRUCTION - A terrorist hunter is hired by a scientist to deactivate her android double who’s about to destroy a big city. The ever likable Gregory Hines stars in this flick that also features the impressive Dutch actress Renee Soutendijk.
775. X-15 - During the Cold War the Air Force & NASA tested the experimental aircraft, the X-15, that set altitude & speed records & reached the edge of outer space. This is one of Charles Bronson’s earliest leading roles. Directed by Richard Donner & narrated by Jimmy Stewart.
776. FORTY GUNS - There’s a showdown in Arizona between the Bonnell brothers, U.S.Marshals & Jessica Drummond, the iron-fisted rancher who controls the territory. Barbara Stanwyk is excellent in this western from Director Samuel Fuller!
777. PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES - We completed our annual family viewing of this John Hughes / Steve Martin / John Candy Thanksgiving classic. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
778. MIDNIGHT RUN - Excellent action comedy from the director of Beverly Hills Cop. Robert DeNiro is a bounty hunter who picks up Charles Grodin, an accountant who embezzled from the mob. Along the way they battle gangsters, the FBI & rival bounty hunters. Highly recommended!
779. GET SHORTY - John Travolta is perfect as Chili Palmer, a mob collector who heads to Los Angeles to collect a debt. While he’s there he tries to break into the movie business. Based on a novel by Elmore Leonard, this film features an amazing cast!
780. TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. - Secret Service agent William Peterson will bend every rule to bring down counterfeiter Willem Dafoe who killed his partner. Violent & artistic, this thriller from Director William Friedkin features another incredible car chase sequence.
781. MANHUNTER - After quitting his job as an FBI profiler, Will Graham (William Peterson) comes back to help find a vicious serial killer dubbed The Tooth Fairy. Hannibal Lector, who Graham caught, is key to finding the killer in this stylish thriller from Director Michael Mann.
782. REVENGE - A retired US Navy pilot (Kevin Costner) comes to Mexico, where he falls in love with the wife (Madeleine Stowe) of a powerful businessman (Anthony Quinn). This doesn’t go well for him or her. Tony Scott directs this lesser known Costner film from 1990.
783. THE BODYGUARD - Kevin Costner protects Whitney Houston from a stalker in this popular film from 1992. I’ve always like this movie.
784. WHITE HOUSE DOWN - While on a tour of the White House with his daughter, a Capitol policeman (Channing Tatum) springs into action to protect the president (Jamie Foxx) from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders, led by bad guy James Woods. Fun, popcorn flick!
785. FAST-WALKING - A corrupt prison guard (James Woods) becomes involved in a plot to murder a black revolutionary serving time in his prison. Somewhat crude, but with excellent performances by a game cast. Along with @RealJamesWoods, Tim McIntire & Kay Lenz are standouts.
786. AGAINST ALL ODDS - A gangster (James Woods) hires an ex-football player (Jeff Bridges) to find his girlfriend (Rachel Ward). Things begin to get really interesting when he locates her. Bridges & Ward are an attractive pair & @RealJamesWoods plays slimy bad guy to perfection.
787. THE BOOST - James Woods is a CA real estate developer who loves his wife more than anything. In order to keep his edge he begins using cocaine, but this leads his family on a downward spiral. Excellent performances by @RealJamesWoods & Sean Young in this cautionary tale.
788. SPLIT IMAGE - A young man is drawn into a religious cult by a beautiful girl, forcing his parents to kidnap him to bring him home. Then they bring in a “deprogrammer” to get him back to normal. James Woods, Brian Dennehy & Peter Fonda are phenomenal in this interesting film.
789. PRESCRIPTION: MURDER - A psychiatrist uses a patient he’s having an affair with to help him kill his wife, but his alibi may come apart thanks to a seemingly befuddled LAPD lieutenant Columbo. This excellent TV Movie from 1968 is Peter Falk’s first appearance as Columbo.
790. HOME ALONE - We watched this Christmas classic while we were putting our tree up this morning! Now we just need to buy the presents to put under it!
791. THE ONION FIELD - @RealJamesWoods gives a powerful performance as cop killer Gregory Powell. This film is based on the true story of the murder of an LA police officer in an onion field outside of Bakersfield, CA. Ted Danson, Franklyn Seales & John Savage are all excellent.
792. IMMEDIATE FAMILY - Linda and Michael (Glenn Close & James Woods), married for 10 years, desperately want a baby and turn to an adoption agency that introduces them to pregnant teenager Lucy. Particularly rewarding if you enjoy the work of Close & @RealJamesWoods!
793. DIE HARD - The Christmas movies continue with one of the greatest action flicks of all time! Bruce Willis became an international superstar as wisecracking, terrorist killing NYPD cop, John McClane!
794. THE SHADOW RIDERS - After the Civil War, two brothers (Tom Selleck & Sam Elliott) demobilized from the army return home & set out to rescue relatives who have been kidnapped by a band of renegade Confederates. Excellent cast makes this movie very enjoyable!
795. WARLOCK - A famous gunman becomes the marshal of Warlock to end a gang's rampage, but is met with opposition by a former gang member turned deputy sheriff who wants to follow only legal methods. I’m a fan of this western starring Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark & Anthony Quinn.
796. BARBAROSA - A young cowboy hooks up with a legendary outlaw & before long both are on the run from the law. Willie Nelson & Gary Buddy are good in this interesting western.
797. HEATSEEKER - A kickboxing champion is forced to fight cyborgs in a tournament when the company kidnaps his fiancee. If that sounds like a movie you’d enjoy, give it a shot!
798. BROKEN ARROW - Terrorists steal nuclear warheads from the U.S. military but don't count on a pilot & park ranger spoiling their plans. John Travolta is the bad guy & Christian Slater is the hero in this enjoyable action film from Hong Kong maestro John Woo!
799. RUN LOLA RUN - After a botched money delivery, Lola has 20 minutes to come up with 100,000 Deutschmarks. The pulsating soundtrack of this experimental German thriller sets the mood & I’ve loved Franka Potente ever since I first saw this film back in 1999.
800. SCARFACE - The movie that spawned a million “Say hello to my little friend” jokes! Al Pacino eats up the scenery in Brian De Palma’s ode to excess.
801. THE DRIVER - A getaway driver (Ryan O’Neal) becomes the latest assignment for a tenacious detective (Bruce Dern). Walter Hill directs this excellent action film with a cool O’Neal & a crazy / obsessed Dern. Definitely recommended.
802. TRESPASS - Two firemen (Bill Paxton & William Sadler) search for gold church items that are hidden in a factory in St. Louis. Once there, they witness Ice-T & Ice Cube settling a score & find themselves in a struggle to survive. Walter Hill directs this superior action pic!
803. CONAN THE BARBARIAN - Conan becomes a slave after his parents are killed by a savage warlord, Thulsa Doom. When he grows up, he plots his revenge. Schwarzenegger was on the verge of a becoming a superstar when he made this movie, that also features James Earl Jones.
804. BRUCE ALMIGHTY - In response to Carrey’s announcement that he’s leaving Twitter, I decided to watch this comedy. God (Morgan Freeman) turns over his powers to Bruce (Jim Carrey), a reporter who thinks God is mistreating him. I think this movie teaches some valuable lessons.
805. THE NUTTY PROFESSOR - Comic genius Eddie Murphy made one of his funniest movies when he played Sherman Klump, as well as Sherman’s family, in this sweet comedy about a big man who learns to accept himself just the way he is. Just a fun movie to watch.
806. LIAR LIAR - Jim Carrey is hilarious as a lawyer who lies constantly until his son makes a wish that his dad will stop lying! Needless to say, it causes him lots of problems when he’s forced to tell the truth for a day. Another Carrey comedy that teaches a valuable lesson.
807. 3:10 TO YUMA - Classic western from Director Delmer Daves has a down on his luck farmer (Van Heflin) delivering an outlaw (Glenn Ford) to Contention City in time to catch the 3:10 train to Yuma. Excellent performances by the leads make this movie a must see. #WestWed
808. CLASS ACTION - An attorney representing a traumatized accident victim finds that his opponent is a very familiar defense attorney - his own daughter. Gene Hackman is excellent in this courtroom drama from Director Michael Apted. I definitely recommend this one!
809. THUNDERHEART - A young FBI agent is assigned to work with a veteran investigator on a murder on a poverty-stricken Sioux reservation. I’m a big fan of Val Kilmer & this is one of his best movies in my opinion. Graham Greene is also excellent as a member of the tribal police.
810. THE UNTOUCHABLES - Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Andy Garcia & Charles Martin Smith are all excellent as the untouchables, federal agents working together to bring down Al Capone, played by an equally game Robert DeNiro. I love this 1987 classic from Director Brian DePalma.
811. SHOOT TO KILL - An FBI agent teams up with a tracker to pursue a murderer after he vanishes into the mountains & infiltrates a hiking group. Sidney Poitier, Tom Berenger & Kirstie Alley star in this excellent action film from 1988.
812. RENEGADES - An undercover cop (Kiefer Sutherland) forms an alliance with a Native American (Lou Diamond Phillips) to help him hunt down the criminals who stole an ancient Lakota tribal lance. I love @RealKiefer so I enjoy this action movie!
813. THE KILLER - This is the movie that started my obsession with the Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-Fat. Chow & Director John Woo were a match made in cinema heaven & this film gets my highest recommendation!
814. SCROOGED - A selfish, cynical television executive is haunted by three spirits bearing lessons on Christmas Eve. Bill Murray is pitch perfect in this comic reimagining of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol!
815. THE GREATEST STORE IN THE WORLD - Geraldine & her two daughters are living on the streets on London. When their van blows up, Geraldine decides to take up residence in Scottley's, the best department store in London. This is an enjoyable British Christmas movie.
816. CLASS OF 1984 - A new teacher at a troubled inner-city high school clashes with the delinquent leader of a punk posse that runs the school. Perry King stars in this fun 1980’s exploitation flick that’s part high school drama & part vigilante justice!
817. THE KARATE KID PART II - Daniel & Mr. Miyagi travel to Miyagi's childhood home in Okinawa. Miyagi visits his dying father & confronts his old rival, while Daniel falls in love & makes a new rival of his own. I loved this movie as a teenager & still enjoy revisiting it today.
818. ANOTHER 48 HOURS - In honor of my good buddy & fellow accounting professional @sequelsonly, I’ll be watching a lot of sequels on the #SequelSaturday! I enjoy Walter Hill’s follow up to the buddy cop classic 48 HRS. Murphy & Nolte are a great team!
819. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT - Ethan Hunt & his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong. Tom Cruise & his Mission Impossible movies seem to just get better & better!
820. DEATH WISH V: THE FACE OF DEATH - 20 years after the original, Charles Bronson returned for one last time as vigilante Paul Kersey. This entry in the Death Wish series is way more fun than it has any right to be, mainly due to Bronson himself & an over the top Michael Parks!
821. THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT - Samantha Caine lives in a small town with her daughter. Eight years earlier she emerged from a nearby river, 2 months pregnant, with no memory of who she is. But she figures it out! Great Action movie starring Geena Davis & Samuel Jackson!
822. CROCODILE DUNDEE II - In this follow up to the smash hit comedy from 1986, Australian outback expert, Michael J. “Crocodile Dundee” protects his New York girlfriend from gangsters who've followed her down under. Enjoyable sequel.
823. DIE HARD 2: DIE HARDER - John McClane (Bruce Willis) attempts to avert disaster as rogue military operatives seize control of Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. DIE HARD 2 is an excellent sequel to one of the best action movies ever made!
824. A BETTER TOMORROW - John Woo changed action cinema forever when he put 2 guns in Chow Yun-Fat’s hands in this landmark Hong Kong movie.
825. A BETTER TOMORROW II - After the runaway box office success of the original, this sequel quickly followed in 1987. It’s completely over the top in action & melodrama, but NOBODY directs an action scene like John Woo & Chow Yun-Fat has never looked cooler!
826. HARD BOILED - In the 80’s & early 90’s the coolest things in Hong Kong cinema were director John Woo & star Chow Yun-Fat. John Woo would direct his first American film, HARD TARGET just two years after this. Chow would star in the THE REPLACEMENT KILLERS a few years later.
827. CHRISTMAS VACATION - Clark Griswold plans the perfect “old-fashioned family Christmas.” Of course, everything goes wrong & Clark loses it! One of those movies we watch & laugh at every year! Randy Quaid pretty much steals the movie as cousin Eddie!
828. FAST FIVE - My personal favorite movie in the Fast & Furious franchise. This movie moves the series in a new action direction!
829. INDIANA JONES & THE LAST CRUSADE - This was always my favorite Indiana Jones movie when I was growing up. It came out when I was 15. What’s strange is I remember that you could buy this movie at McDonalds with a purchase of food. Do y’all remember those days? 🤣
830. WARRIORS OF FUTURE - When a meteorite strikes a future Hong Kong & releases an alien plant, our warriors of the future must battle aliens to neutralize the growth of the plant before it destroys everything. Big budget special effects movie stars Louis Koo & Lau Ching-Wan.
831. IN HOT PURSUIT, AKA POLK COUNTY POT PLANE - If y’all have gone through life without seeing the story of Oosh & Doosh & their adventures with pot & planes, I “high”-ly recommend that you watch this. Also, you’ll probably enjoy it more if you’re high on life!
832. THE FOREIGNER - A humble businessman with a buried past seeks justice when his daughter is killed in an act of terrorism. Jackie Chan & Pierce Brosnan star in this solid action thriller.
833. THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES - Kurt Russell makes a great Santa Claus in this story about a sister & brother, whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. Wonderful Christmas movie!
834. CODE OF SILENCE - Chuck Norris is a cop caught in the middle of a gang war while his fellow cops shun him because he wants to take down an irresponsible cop. This excellent movie, directed by Andrew Davis, is my personal favorite Norris film. Henry Silva’s a slimy bad guy!
835. NATIONAL TREASURE - A historian races to find the legendary Templar Treasure before a team of mercenaries. Nicolas Cage is a lot of fun in this enjoyable adventure film from Disney Studios.
836. NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS - Benjamin Gates follows a clue left in John Wilkes Booth's diary to prove his ancestor's innocence in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Fun continuation of the series finds Nicolas Cage in fine form & a welcome addition in Ed Harris!
837. 30 MINUTES OR LESS - Two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery guy, strap a bomb to his chest & inform him that he has mere hours to rob a bank or else. The director & star of one of my favorite movies, Zombieland, collaborated on this extremely crude & funny film.
838. JOHN WICK - An ex-hit-man comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that killed his dog & took his car. Keanu Reeves’ badass performance in this excellent action film gave his career a major shot in the arm!
839. STICK - The best synopsis of this film I’ve ever read came from my good friends with @hardtimesonfilm - “Come for the amazing balcony stunt & stay for the Charles Durning performance!” Star Burt Reynolds also directed this crime thriller based on an Elmore Leonard novel.
840. HOW THE WEST WAS WON - A saga covering several decades of Westward expansion in the 19th century, including the Gold Rush, the Civil War & the building of the railroads. One of the great film casts of all time includes Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, John Wayne & Gregory Peck!
841. BACK TO THE FUTURE PART III - Marty McFly learns that he must travel back in time to the old west to save Doc Brown. This fun conclusion to the popular trilogy has Marty McFly playing “Clint Eastwood” when he goes back to 1885. Michael J. Fox is a personal favorite!
842. FATAL ATTRACTION - A married man's one-night stand comes back to haunt him when that lover begins to stalk him & his family. Michael Douglas & Glenn Close star in this thriller that made the act of boiling a rabbit a symbol of terror for men all across the world!
843. LETHAL WEAPON - I’ve been waiting for the Christmas season to watch this classic buddy cop action film! Two newly paired cops must put aside their differences in order to catch a gang of drug smugglers. The chemistry between Mel Gibson & Danny Glover makes these movies work!
844. YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES - When assorted people start having inexplicable delusions that lead to their deaths, a teenage Sherlock Holmes decides to investigate. Barry Levinson directed & Steven Spielberg produced this enjoyable mystery.
845. LAST HOLIDAY - Queen Latifah is wonderful as a hard working lady who’s diagnosed with a terminal illness. Rather than feeling sorry for herself, she cashes in her savings & lives it up in a beautiful resort / hotel in Europe. Excellent film with a message that resonates!
846. MASK OF THE NINJA - In a heavily wooded private estate in the Malibu Hills, a millionaire & his daughter are attacked by a masked band of ninja assassins. I watched this one for for dominating presence of Casper Van Dien as detective Jack Barrett in this TV movie from 2008.
847. MISSING IN ACTION 2: THE BEGINNING - This prequel finds Colonel James Braddock & other American POWs in a brutal Vietnamese prison camp, where they eventually try to escape! Brutal at times, but also exciting when they make a break for it!
848. WAR - An FBI Agent seeks vengeance on a mysterious assassin known as "Rogue" who murdered his partner. Of course, Jason Statham & Jet Li provide plenty of well choreographed action.
849. RAMBO - In Thailand, John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) joins a group of mercenaries to venture into war-torn Burma, and rescue a group of Christian aid workers who were kidnapped by the ruthless local infantry unit. Extremely violent Rambo film.
850. ESCAPE FROM LA - Snake Plissken is back & this time he’s called in by the U.S. government to recover a potential doomsday device from Los Angeles, now an autonomous island where undesirables are deported. Kurt Russell is great as Plissken, one of his most iconic roles.
851. YES VIRGINIA, THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS - Inspired by the 1897 editorial that has become a holiday staple, this was Charles Bronson’s first movie after the death of his wife Jill Ireland. Bronson is excellent in this change of pace role, as is Katharine Isabelle as Virginia.
852. RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER - Classic Rankin-Bass Christmas cartoon about Rudolph, the most famous reindeer of them all! This is one of those shows we couldn’t wait to watch on TV when we were kids. At 49, I still watch it to get into the Christmas spirit!
853. FROSTY THE SNOWMAN - My attempt to get into the Christmas spirit continues with this classic Christmas cartoon about Frosty, the snowman who comes to life with the help of a magic hat. This is another we couldn’t wait to come on when we were kids.
854. A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS - I’m starting to get into the Christmas spirit watching all these classics from my childhood. Of all the Christmas cartoons I’ve watched so far, this is definitely the Charlie Browniest!
855. HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS - Watching the events that lead up to the Grinch’s growing heart is one of my favorite things to do leading up to Christmas! Dr. Seuss’ words, Boris Karloff’s narration & the singing of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” help me feel very merry!
856. SHREK THE HALLS - When our kids were small we loved the Shrek movies & we loved to watch this Christmas special. It is so witty & it has a good message. My favorite part is hearing Gingy, the gingerbread cookie, tell his horrifying version of the Christmas story!
857. MERRY MADAGASCAR - When Santa crashes in Madagascar, it’s up to Alex, Marty, Melman & Gloria to save Christmas for the kids of the world & maybe even get back to the zoo in New York City. This is another one our kids loved. I’m officially getting in the spirit today!
858. FATMAN - Mel Gibson stars as a very different version of St. Nick. Walton Goggins is a hitman trying to take him out on behalf of a rich “little shit” who got coal for Christmas. Violent film ultimately proves that you’d better watch out because Santa Claus is watching you!
859. KRAMPUS - A boy who has a bad Christmas accidentally summons a festive demon to his family home. Not that scary or funny, this horror comedy is still pretty fun.
860. BLACK CHRISTMAS - During their Christmas break, a group of sorority girls are stalked by a stranger. This early,creepy slasher flick from Director Bob Clark features an interesting cast that includes Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder & John Saxon.
861. TRADING PLACES - A snobbish investor & a wily street con artist find their positions reversed as part of a bet by two callous millionaires. This hilarious comedy starring Dan Aykroyd & Eddie Murphy features a particularly revealing performance from Jamie Lee Curtis!
862. GREMLINS - A young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet & unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town. Our family saw this at the movies when I was a kid & we didn’t go very often. Gizmo was just too cute!
863. THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL - The Muppets present their own take on Charles Dickens' classic tale, with Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge! This was the first Muppet movie after the passing of creator Jim Henson & it was directed by his son Brian.
864. IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE - Frank Capra directs the story of George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart), a man who thinks his life is no longer worth living until his guardian Angel shows him how different the world would have been without him. We watched it at the movie theater this year!
865. FOUR CHRISTMASES - A couple struggles to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas. My favorite household is headed up by Robert Duvall! There are definitely some funny moments in this one.
866. THE HOLIDAY - Two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other's countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love. Enjoyable romantic movie.
867. HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK - One year after Kevin McCallister was left home alone & had to defeat a pair of bumbling burglars, he accidentally finds himself stranded in New York City & the same criminals are not far behind. Fun sequel to the surprise smash hit of 1990!
868. WHITE CHRISTMAS - A successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act & team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general. This 1954 Christmas movie features a hilarious Danny Kaye & the classic song sung by Bing Crosby!
869. THE SANTA CLAUSE - When a man inadvertently makes Santa fall off his roof on Christmas Eve, he finds himself magically recruited to take his place. I enjoy this funny, heartwarming Christmas movie.
870. ELF - Raised as an oversized elf, Buddy travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his biological father, Walter Hobbs, who doesn't know he exists & is in desperate need of some Christmas spirit. Will Ferrell is hilarious in this modern day Christmas classic!
871. MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET - After a divorced mother hires a nice old man to play Santa Claus at Macy's, she’s startled by his claim to actually be Santa Claus. When his sanity is questioned, a lawyer argues in court that he really IS Santa Claus. Heartwarming Christmas classic!
872. THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER - Two employees at a gift shop can barely stand each other, without realizing that they are falling in love as each other's anonymous pen pal. This Christmas classic from 1940 starring Jimmy Stewart would be remade in 1998 as YOU’VE GOT MAIL.
873. THE FAMILY MAN - A fast-lane investment broker, offered the opportunity to see how the other half lives, wakes up to find that his sports car & girlfriend have become a mini-van & wife. Nicolas Cage is excellent in this Christmas movie with a message!
874. A CHRISTMAS STORY - In the 1940s, young Ralphie attempts to convince his parents, teacher & Santa Claus that a Red Ryder Range 200 Shot BB gun really is the perfect Christmas gift. Classic Christmas movie from 1983.
875. THE REF - A cat burglar is forced to take a bickering, dysfunctional family hostage on Christmas Eve. This movie has its moments & it features excellent actors in Denis Leary, Kevin Spacey & Judy Davis! I hadn’t seen it since the 90’s & enjoyed it.
876. BAD SANTA - A miserable conman & his partner pose as Santa & his Little Helper to rob department stores on Christmas Eve. But they run into problems when the conman befriends a troubled kid. Billy Bob Thornton is perfect as the “Bad Santa” of the title in this crude comedy.
877. BAD SANTA 2 - In this sequel set 13 years later, Willie teams up again with his sidekick, Marcus, to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. The novelty has somewhat worn off, but Billy Bob Thornton is the only actor I can see in this role. Kathy Bates plays his mom.
878. FIGHT, ZATOICHI, FIGHT - Blind swordsman Zatoichi is near when a young mother is murdered. He promises to deliver her baby to its father. If you’ve never seen a ZATOICHI film (there are 26 in this film series), I highly recommend them! Shintaro Katsu is amazing as the lead.
879. ZATOICHI AND THE CHEST OF GOLD - In the 6th film of the series, Zatoichi is mistaken for a thief. To clear his name he must find & defeat the real villain. Excellent entry in the series! Shintaro Katsu’s brother, Tomisaburo Wakayama of Lone Wolf & Cub fame, guest stars.
880. ZATOICHI’S CANE SWORD - Zatoichi, while fighting off the usual group of gangsters, meets the apprentice of the swordsman who created his blade, who relays bad news about the sword. Shintaro Katsu continues this amazing character in the 15th film of the series.
881. ZATOICHI’S REVENGE - After Zatoichi learns of his teacher’s murder, he uncovers a conspiracy involving the local government & crime family. This 1965 film is the 10th of 26 films featuring the incomparable Shintaro Katsu as Zatoichi. The first was released in 1962.
882. THE MAGIC BLADE - Two rival swordsmen must team up to prevent the legendary Peacock Dart from falling into the hands of Mr. Yu & his evil criminal underworld. Martial arts stars Ti Lung & Lo Lieh team up in this excellent swordplay thriller from the Shaw Brothers studio.
883. COME DRINK WITH ME - Bandits kidnap a governor's son & demand their imprisoned leader to be set free in exchange. The governor's daughter, a skilled martial artist, is sent to rescue him. King Hu directs & Cheng Pei-Pei stars in this martial arts classic!
884. GOLDEN SWALLOW - Golden Swallow is living peacefully with her friend by a waterfall until she is accused of going on a bloody rampage against an evil clan. Legendary director Chang Cheh directs this follow up to COME DRINK WITH ME starring Cheng Pei-Pei, Wang Yu & Lo Lieh.
