There’s a lot of shul coming up and some people have trouble focusing throughout.
I’m going to share some reading recommendations and encourage others to please add their own!
I really try not to over do it but around this time of year I like to remind that I actually wrote a book about sin that features a lot of High Holidays/Teshuva themes.
I’m proud of the work and would be ever grateful if you took the time to read.
My fondest memories as a child was getting antsy in shul and my mother showing me little stories or meaningful paragraphs in the machzor.
Make sure you have a great machzor.
I like the standard @artscroll. Great opening essay. Rabbi Sacks Machzor from @korenpublishers is great.
Strictly speaking it’s not Torah, but it really is all about Teshuva. The book Aspiration: The Agency of Becoming by @AgnesCallard is fantastic High Holiday reading.
It hasn’t arrived yet, but I ordered the new book on Teshuva and reconciliation from @TheRaDR
On Repentance And Repair: Making Amends in an Unapologetic World a.co/d/7l82vHA
If you have access to an academic library, this article has always hovered over my Teshuva experience. ❤️🩹
This is one of the most profound works of Jewish mysticism published in English in the last century.
If you’ve never heard of Sarah Yehudit Schneider, it’s time to discover her work.
You Are What You Hate: A Spiritually Productive Approach to Enemies a.co/d/2DAkPOP
For those comfortable with rabbinic Hebrew, the work Beis Elokim is severely understudied, deeply moving, and has an entire section on Teshuva (as well as tefila).
Written by the Mabit (16th century)
My dearest friend @hmabramson wrote a book on Maimonides approach to Teshuva. Will be with me throughout the high holidays this year.

@benshapiro — good call on taking the plus off your profile pic. For a second I thought we lost you. 😅🙈✝️🙈🤷♂️😅
I remember as a kid the ole’ + sign vs cross debate.
Always came up with Swiss army merchandise.
Personally I was always lenient and was annoyed when some made a big deal about it but on a profile pic it did give a very “I have accepted Jesus” vibe.
