4/7 This is what Mr Putin's popularity is based on. The middle-class has been able to enjoy both Great Russian fantasies and personal comfort. As I have said before, the comfort must be taken away from the middle-class. This is what the sanctions and travel bans are all about.
5/7 The Russians who run to Georgia and Finland do not oppose the war. They have been completely quiet for seven months. They oppose being mobilized. Once safe abroad, they can return to the couch and keep waving the flag.
6/7 It is more beneficial for everyone to contain the anger within Russia. The West should not create a valve for letting out the pressure. There is a chance the mobilization leads to wide unrest and rebellion in Russia.
7/7 Even if it does not, untrained, unequipped and unmotivated "soldiers" will do more harm to the Russian war effort than to Ukraine.
