Stormzy is not just a great artist but a Black-British archivist, documenting history and giving people their flowers while they are around & even when they’ve passed on too soon (Jamal Edwards💐🕊)

Mel Made Me Do It ImageImageImageImage
Black-Britishness is a legit combo culture. It’s an identity that a lot of us are documenting without knowing. Every tweet, every tik-tok, the YouTube channel that you think knowing is watching, your podcast, the primary school class you teach, the journalists, your office job.
A lot of us know exactly what the song title refers to culturally, especially Black British women. We’ve been saying “Mel Made Me Do It” for years. There’s something significant about Stormzy referencing Melissa’s Wardrobe like that. Her influence is undeniable and yet …
Accepting that the duality of being both Black & being British is an identity in its own right is a great start. Validation though, not that necessary because …
I think a lot of people, me included, watched that #MMMDI thinking “ah I need to do more”. I’m telling you, the thing you’re doing is seen. I see you. Your contribution to the culture is WORTHY. What Stormzy did is platform a few, let us platform the the rest & continue the wave ImageImageImageImage
Honoury mention to @rbc3x 💐. Collect your flowers friend! Image

YES! The trailer for the movie about Black Panther leader Fred Hampton & his FBI assassination has finally been released. It is called ‘Judas and The Black Messiah’ and stars Daniel Kaluuya as Hampton and Lakeith Stanfield as the informant who betrayed him
I was one of the lucky few to be able to watch the trailer earlier this week in the (virtual) presence of THE Fred Hampton Jr, producers Ryan Coogler (Marvel’s Black Panther), Charles D. King (Just Mercy) & director/co-writer Shaka King. The convo that followed was v enlightening
Much was discussed as the men answered qs but all I could think about was the fact Fred Hampton’s heavily pregnant partner survived the raid & gave birth to the man speaking through my computer screen. These events (1969) were not that long ago! Think about it. Crazy, huh?
