So, a friend on Discord drew my attention to an issue where younger #fanfiction readers on AO3 want a fyp like TikTok, and it's just...there's so many issues there. ๐งต
One argument was that "AO3 is hard to navigate!"
It really, really isn't. There's a list of fandoms supported by the site, separated by category. Just click one.
Related to the previous, one of the arguments was that the filters are hard to use.
Just click on a tag to include, or a tag to exclude, and hit the "sort and filter" button. And if your tag doesn't show up with the first ten, you can type it in manually.
Another person thought we should have a fyp like TikTok, based on fics they liked.
The TikTok algorithm is extremely invasive. It tracks everything, that's how it makes its recommendations.
If AO3 had a fyp, it would send you things based on your kudos, comments, and even bookmarks. Do you /really/ want AO3 to be tracking your information that closely? It's creepy enough that TikTok does it.
Anyway, thread concluded. It's just really weird to me that there's apparently a group of teens are good with a fanfic archive invading their privacy to that level. Makes me worry about them ๐ฌ

Okay. I've had food. I've had a bit more time to wake up. I've mulled this over with friends. And Coyote is officially pissing me off. Not because they're attacking the SAM, but because they're attacking people who find it helpful, for the simple reason they DON'T.
๐งต time. (1/?)
First things first: The author doesn't find the SAM helpful or useful to them. That's completely valid. They shouldn't feel forced to use it, and anyone who tries to force it on them needs to gtfo of this conversation ASAP. You don't get to do that to anyone. (2/?)
Same goes for any label. You shouldn't force a label on anyone just to make things easier for yourself.
Now, regarding the SAM. I understand that Coyote doesn't see romantic and sexual attraction as separate. They don't have to.
