So what has Jan. 6 Committee been up to since its last public hearing in July?

“We have been completing the picture,” @RepRaskin tells @costareports here at #TribFest22

@PunchbowlNews
Raskin won’t say what next week’s hearing will focus on:

“I don’t want to say but I promise you it will be interesting for people who have followed it up until now.”

Says he hopes hearing will touch more on violent extremism online/Twitter whistleblower
Raskin on Roger Stone’s role in Jan. 6:

“Stay tuned…he’s someone who knew where things were going, as did Bannon.”
“Everything remains open at this point,” Raskin says of committee convos with former VP Mike Pence

The panel has been keeping an open line of communication with Pence’s team in talks of him potentially testifying behind closed doors
Raskin is asked about the committee’s lack of cooperation with DOJ (which we reported in @PunchbowlNews last week)

Raskin mentions worries that their evidence would be distributed without panel’s control if it were handed over to DOJ
More Raskin: “In the scariest version of this, Jan. 6 would not be the end of something, it would be the beginning...

I’ve heard from a lot of my colleagues, including from Texas, that the purpose of the 2nd Admt …is to allow people to take up arms to overthrow the govt.”
Does Trump run in 24?

Raskin:
“Yes. I think psychologically it is a compulsion.

Politically, he has locked down the Republican cult at this point…

And financially, that’s his business model.”
Raskin says he’s confident some version of the electoral count reform bill will be signed into law later this year

“But I want to be very clear, that’s the least we can do.”
Raskin on Republicans:

“It’s a matter of showing them affection. They’re much, much better than what they’ve turned into.”

Says he’s bought multiple books on cults and “de-programming” cult members

DEMS fret in Florida: Top Dem worry Alan Grayson could be coming back to Congress, via @maxpcohen

There’s growing fears Grayson could squeak by party favorite Maxwell Alejandro Frost in race to replace Rep. Val Demings

punchbowl.news/newsletter/
Grayson even circulating mailers with Speaker Pelosi saying “I love Alan Grayson”

(Missing from that is context: she said this in a 2018 interview encouraging him not to primary Rep. Darren Soto)
Rep. Mark Pocan doesn’t hold back:

“It is incredibly deceptive… I just wish that Alan would not think about Alan for a change…

Unfortunately, some people are just very selfish.”

A somber Speaker Pelosi starts off her presser with reaction to Roe decision.

“There’s no point in saying good morning because it certainly is not one.”

She says Republicans are planning a “nationwide abortion ban” if they get control of Congress
"The hypocrisy is enraging. But the harm is endless," Pelosi says of SCOTUS decision yesterday on guns vs. Roe today
"This is deadly serious. But we are not going to let this pass. A woman's right to choose, reproductive freedom, is on the ballot in November.

We cannot allow them to take charge so that they can institute their goal, which is to criminalize reproductive freedom."

News: The CPC is quietly discussing changing its endorsement policy after fierce backlash on the left to the caucus’ Nina Turner snub

Turner, Sanders 2020 campaign co-chair, is in a rematch against now incumbent Rep. Shontel Brown tomorrow

The CPC endorsed Brown this time
The endorsement didn’t sit well with progressive groups and left leaning media, who slammed CPC Chair Jayapal

Several accused her of doing it to further leadership ambitions

Jayapal and others, including Pocan, said that’s absurd, noting Brown is a CPC member in good standing
But the backlash has been so swift, the CPC exec board discussed changing its endorsement policies at a member’s only meeting last week

Jayapal even referenced the intense criticism she’s receiving during the meeting, we’re told

NEWS: I’m told there’s a “small plane that is not responding to communication” that has triggered the Capitol evacuation.
The US Capitol Police now says there’s no threat to the Capitol.

This plane was part of the military appreciation night at Nationals Park but the Department of Defense did not inform Capitol officials this was happening, per my sources.
NEW: Speaker Pelosi statement on FAA “failure to notify” US Capitol police:

“The Federal Aviation Administration’s apparent failure to notify Capitol Police of the pre-planned flyover Nationals Stadium is outrageous and inexcusable.”

This AM @PunchbowlNews goes deep into House Democratic leadership. Toplines:

-If Dems lose, it's expected Speaker Pelosi will leave. It's less certain what Hoyer and Clyburn will do.

-Jeffries, Clark & Aguilar are likely the 'New Three'

-Schiff will likely run for Dem leader
SCHIFF running for Dem leader would be huge. It's been clear for a while he wants to be in the mix. Now we know for what

-A huge fundraiser, lots of cash on hand, close to Pelosi

-But there are real qs about his base of support for a leadership run & ambitions beyond the House
JEFFRIES is expected by most to be the next Dem leader.

If there's a generational change, most people expect easy transition for Clark to No. 2, Aguilar to No. 3

The big Q is what does Jeffries do if Pelosi leaves but Hoyer and/or Clyburn want to stay. What move does he make?

Rep. Ami Bera confirms he was BIT by the Senate fox last night

He described attack, which occurred near Russell building, as “unprovoked”

“I didn’t see it and all of a sudden I felt something lunge at the back of my leg,” Bera said.

“I jumped and got my umbrella,” he continues
Bera goes on to act out for us how he spun around quickly, using his umbrella to scare the fox away.

“Someone was like ‘hey a fox is attacking that guy,’” he continues.

“Capitol police came out and then fox ran away. It was the most bizarre day in Congress.”
Bera, who is a doctor, initially didn’t want to get rabies shot because fox bite didn’t seem to puncture skin

But he did so out of an abundance of caution (it’s actually a series of shots).

“I expect to get attacked if I go on Fox News, I don’t expect to get attacked by a fox.”
