⚠️⚠️Over the past few days, the Government has launched an #AttackOnNature. We’ve been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from YOU 🙏❤️

Now, what next – here's the plan. Thread 1/14 Image
There’s more to follow. Much more. But the very first thing is to leave all our MPs in absolutely NO doubt as they sit in their party conferences that you care about wildlife, and this is a huge issue. 2/14
To do this all you need to do is click here 👇👇 on our new e-action, and follow the instructions. Please, please help. Click the link now. 3/14

What we are doing, basically, is asking three questions. Oh, and extending an invitation. Here are the questions … 4/14
Q1. Government - will you protect the laws that protect nature? 5/14
This means keeping the Habitats Regulations in UK law. These protect the very best wildlife sites up and down the country. Read more about these here. 6/14

rspb.org.uk/our-work/rspb-…
It also means keeping the laws protecting our rivers and beaches from pollution and sewage. 7/14
And while we are at it let’s make sure protections for nature are not trashed in these proposed new “Investment Zones” 8/14
Q2. Government - will you make sure that in return for taxpayer's money, farmers are fully supported to farm in a way that protects and enhances the natural environment? 9/14
This is a 2019 manifesto promise. It means keeping and developing the new Environmental Land Management Scheme that many in @DefraUK have worked so hard on. 10/14 Image
And we know that food security relies on nature’s health. Let's have an end to this false argument about food vs nature. Without nature, ultimately, there is no food. 11/14

gov.uk/government/sta…
Q3. Government – ahead of the global COP15 summit of Convention on Biological Diversity, will you restate unambiguously that your government will deliver "the most ambitious environmental programme of any country on earth." As clearly written in your 2019 manifesto (p3) 12/14 Image
The legal commitments for nature’s recovery in the Environment Act were a very welcome step. But the Government cannot hope to meet them if the answer to the first two questions is ‘no’. 13/14
And finally – will you meet with us @SimonClarkeMP and @ranil ? 14/14

🚨Today UK Gov re-committed to its legal obligations in the Environment Act to start nature’s recovery by 2030. But it is still proposing big changes to how it will protect & restore wildlife in England. We want to be reassured. We haven’t yet seen enough to reassure us. Thread👇 Image
Bottom line: a target to restore nature isn’t enough if you’re dismantling the very protections that will help you achieve it. 2/18
It’s like saying you want to drive to London but then removing the wheels & emptying the fuel tank before you set out. The ambition is still there, but there wouldn’t be much progress. 3/18

It’s been a tough few days. The Government has launched an #AttackOnNature.

But YOU have stood up for wildlife. In your hundreds of thousands. Because YOU care. And you are being heard. Thank you, all of you. 🙏❤🌍

But there’s more to do … (short!) thread 1/4 Image
We’ve been reading all your amazing suggestions. Tomorrow we’ll be looking closely at these, talking with our partner wildlife organisations, and considering where we all take this next. 2/4
And also, tomorrow, we are going to challenge the government to answer some key questions about their proposals – we’re certainly going to need your help with that. 3/4

🚨 Yet another Gov #AttackOnNature? The third in as many days? @DefraGovUK please say it’s not true that the Government is going to break another promise and scrap the new scheme that supports nature friendly farming? 1/14
What’s happening? We are hearing that the Government is about to scrap the Environment Land Management Scheme (aka ELMS). 2/14

theguardian.com/environment/20…
Under this new scheme farmers are paid taxpayers' money in order to help protect nature. Without this many farmers would struggle to help wildlife and balance the books. 3/14

I’m running an educational event called Save Sheffield Wildlife, to teach the community about the decline in our precious wildlife. #GBGW
I’m sharing infographics on wildflowers to show the community how they can rewild their gardens to attract local wildlife. #GBGW
I’m also using crafts to teach my community. Adults are writing on ‘leaves’ what they would like to see for a green future for Sheffield – to be collected on a tree.

⚠️😡Make no mistake, we are angry. This Government has today launched an attack on nature. We don’t use the words that follow lightly. We are entering uncharted territory. Please read this thread. 1/13
As of today, from Cornwall to Cumbria, Norfolk to Nottingham wildlife is facing one of the greatest threats it’s faced in decades. 2/13
What the Government has proposed in today’s mini-budget on top of yesterday’s announcements potentially tears up the most fundamental legal protections our remaining wildlife has. 3/13

🚨⚠️ The RSPB is deeply concerned that the Government is about to start a full-on attack on the laws that protect nature. Please read this thread … 1/8 Image
This evening a new bill will be introduced to parliament that will allow the Government to rip up hundreds of laws that have their origin in the EU. This includes environmental protections, particularly the Habitats Regulations 2/8 questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statem…
And tomorrow the government may announce the launch new “investment zones” where wildlife laws can be further “relaxed” 3/8
