DO YOU KNOW PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS?

#PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis. It’s a medicine that can help prevent HIV. Using PrEP can lower your chances of getting HIV from sex by up to 99%.....1/5

RT thread for awareness
WHO CAN USE PrEP?
Anyone who is sexually active and doesn't have HIV can use PrEP. To find out if PrEP is right for you, talk to your nurse or doctor. You may choose to use PrEP if you:

1. Have had anal or vaginal sex in the last 6 months and:
- Have a sexual partner who has HIV.
- Don’t regularly use condoms. - Have been diagnosed with another STD within the last 6 months.

2. Have shared needles, syringes, or other equipment to inject drugs in the last 6 months.

3. Have used PEP multiple times...3/5
If you’re at high risk for HIV and you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, PrEP may also help you and your baby avoid getting HIV....4/5
PrEP isn’t the same thing as PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis). PEP is a short-term treatment for people who’ve already been exposed to HIV within the past 72 hours.
PrEP is generally an ongoing daily pill or bi-monthy shot FOR PEOPLE WHO MAY BE EXPOSED TO HIV IN THE FUTURE.

PEP(post-exposure prophylaxis) is a short course of HIV medicines taken very soon after a possible exposure to HIV to prevent the virus from taking hold in your body.

You must start it within 72 hrs/3 days after a possible exposure to HIV, or it won’t work. Every hour counts!
Which people should take PEP?
-If during sex eg you had a condom break with a partner of unknown HIV status or a partner with HIV who is not virally suppressed.
-Through shared needles, syringes, or other equipment used to inject drugs injures you.
-After sexual assault.
PEP should be used only in emergency situations. It is not meant for regular use by people who may be exposed to HIV frequently

If you are prescribed PEP, you will need to take the HIV medicines every day for 28 days.

You will also need to return to your health care provider...

DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN HAVE A CHOICE OF HAVING A PAINLESS VAGINAL CHILDBIRTH?

If you're pregnant, have low pain threshold & can't stand the pain of vaginal childbirth but don't want Caesarean section, you can opt for EPIDURAL BLOCK in labour.

RT thread for awareness Image
"Epidural" is convenient, kills labour pain effectively, & has minimal side effects if done by experienced hands.

During epidural block, your doctor injects you with a powerful pain killer at the lower part of your back along your spine.

This will relieve your labour pains....
...almost instantly.

But don't let a non-professional try epidural block on you or your partner.

If their hands are shaky, the patient not relaxed, or they ain't sure where they're sticking the needle, it could increase the risk of nerve damage & other complications.

MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT VIRGINITY.
A woman's hymen can not tell you much about her virginity. Stop depending on it to judge if she is a virgin or not.

RT this thread for awareness.
The hymen is a membrane covering the vagina opening. Its shape and size varies in people.
It normally doesn't cover the vaginal opening completely to allow discharges/menstrual flow to pass through.
If imperfonate (covers vagina completely), surgery is done to open it up a bit.
In many cultures, however, people believe that once a woman's hymen is torn, she's been "disvirgined'

They also believe that when a woman is deflowered, she must bleed from the vagina to show that her hymen has broken (which proves her virginity).
In most cases, both are false!

🚨KNOW ABOUT EBOLA 🚨

Ebola virus is a zoonotic pathogen that causes severe hemorrhagic fever in humans, known as Ebola virus disease (EVD) which is a deadly disease with occasional outbreaks that occur mostly on the African continent.

RT thread to save a life please. Image
EVD most commonly affects people & nonhuman primates (such as monkeys, gorillas & chimpanzees).

It is caused by an infection with a group of viruses within the genus Ebolavirus & only four (Ebola zaire, Sudan, Taï Forest & Bundibugyo viruses) have caused disease in people.
Of these, species Zaire ebolavirus (EBOV) is the most lethal, with case fatality rates of 70–90% if left untreated.

HOW IS IT TRANSMITTED
The virus spreads through direct contact (such as through broken skin or mucous membranes in the eyes, nose or mouth) with:

Things you should consider after having an UNPROTECTED sex

- Pregnancy
- HIV/AIDs
- STDs (such as gonorrhea, genital herpes, HPV, chlamydia,& syphilis etc)

1. For pregnancy use emergency contraception:
If within 72hrs- take Levonorgestrel pills (Postinor 2,Lydia etc)

RT thread
If within 5 days- take Ulipristal acetate or copper IUD under doctor's guidance.

2. For HIV/AIDs 👇

Run a Retroviral screening to be sure you're HIV negative, then your doctor can prescribe an appropriate PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis).
PEP means taking medicine to prevent HIV after a possible exposure and is only taken in emergency cases.

3. For STDs.
Your doctor will recommend some like microbial culture & sensitivity after which the appropriate antibiotics will be prescribed.
