I wanted to stop focusing on the #RideauVanier race, but our friend Tyler is too ridiculous to ignore. He got a shout out from Rupa Subramanya yesterday, Of course, Tyler is trying to play the victim but do a terrible job of it. #Ottawa#OttVote 1/
This interaction is also illustrative of some broader tropes that we’ve seen in the convoy and in the far-right in North America, so it’s worth looking at. 2/
Here is Tyler complaining that nobody is safe from “the mob” nowadays. Remember, Tyler supported and was part of an actual mob that terrorized the people he wants to represent for three weeks straight. The gall of this guy…
In the replies, someone complains that they are being called a far-right extremist just because they went to the far-right convoy with a bunch of transphobic signs and hung out with notorious transphobe Billboard Chris. 4/
Tyler, of course, liked this tweet because it’s exactly his MO – say and do far-right stuff, then whine and play the victim when what goes around comes around. 5/
For the record, it’s been about one week since he’s accused people of making “false allegations” of transphobia in his statement. Anyways, here he is liking and replying to vicious transphobes and school board candidates Chanel Pfahl and Shannon Boschy. 6/
What Tyler and Rupa are doing here is classic right-wing victimhood and grievance politics with a bit of crybully thrown in. They want to pretend to be victims so badly so they can pretend that they are standing up against injustice. 7/
This long predates the convoy – how many facebook uncles have you seen rant and rave at liberal snowflakes but have a meltdown over “ok boomer” – but is illustrative of classic convoy tactics. 8/
Divide the country through things like harassing healthcare workers, spreading hatred, and terrorizing Ottawans, then complain about division as though you did not have a hand in creating it and it was all Trudeau’s fault or something. 9/
It is also interesting that Rupa is the one to respond to Tyler, as we saw many conservative media outlets play along with this convoy strategy. 10/
That is why we have to be careful when people call for unity or to overcome division – there can be no unity with a far right spreading transphobia and making the lives of marginalized people worse.

1/ 🧵#NorthCowichan#Chemainus we need to talk about town council candidate Charles Borg. Charles Borg is an anti-vaxxer, anti-masker, member of fascist organization Veterans4Freedom, and supports notorious far right extremist Jeremy MacKenzie.
Your first hint is that here he is sharing conspiratorial content about digital ID and the CCP from far-right “news” source TNC, from his official campaign facebook page. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. 2/
Charles Borg recently did a video on the Veterans4Freedom facebook page where talked a little about himself. Let’s take a look. 3/
Attention #Markham, we need to talk about YCDSB trustee candidate Luca Mele, running in Wards 1,2,3 & 6. Luca Mele is a far-right conspiracy theorist who should not be anywhere near a school board seat. 1/
Of course, your first hint is that on his campaign website, he rants about “extreme leftist woke curriculums,” but let’s dig a little deeper. 2/
Luca has run for office before, most recently with the New Blue Party, getting a little over 2% in the 2022 provincial election. New Blue is one of two far-right splinter parties in Ontario; for more information see my previous thread on Glen Armstrong:
