My morning will consist of reading a modified AP style guide with a sleeping baby strapped to my chest.

This was not exactly the ten-year plan, but it's pretty good.
Nevermind. I hate this. Quotation marks?! QUOTATION MARKS?! What barbarism is this?!

Can anyone (@APStylebook? anyone else #AmEditing ?) explain the why on this to me? I can try to accustom myself to the absolute heresy of "Pride and Prejudice" or "Hero With a Thousand Faces" if I have a proper reason...
(My conjecture at this moment would be that if you've been trying to communicate news across a multitude of media since 1846 (literally starting with the Pony Express), you're less likely to lose quotation marks in reprints & copy/paste than italics or underlines.)

I used to spend Friday through Sunday in a spiral of dread anxiety and self-resentment.

Now it's just a weekend. We sleep in. We go to a brewery with friends. We sometimes go to a quiet afternoon service where we show up 5 minutes late and leave when baby is hungry.
Leaving ordained ministry has had griefs big and small, and having a newborn is not at all easy, but my mental health has incontrovertibly improved in the past month. It's an undeniable confirmation that leaving was the right thing for me and my family.
I do miss studying the texts & offering a sermon so here's your mini one for today:

Jesus literally said that rich people who ignore the poor at their gate are tortured in the afterlife, while the suffering are comforted by the most faithful ancestors.
