Sharing your data effectively gives you access to impact, investment, and change.

But most of us are terrible at it.

A pie chart isn't the answer to everything.

Here's a guide to 17 chart types and when to use them:
Before we start, you need to know the key is finding the story in your data.

That's how you'll bring about change.

Otherwise your audience leaves feeling confused.

Once you have this, it's time to choose a chart type.

(h/t to @canva + @f_l_o_u_r_i_s_h for the graphics).
#1: Pie chart.

Each slice is one part and they all add up to the whole.

Good if one segment is very large OR small.

Easy to interpret.

However, it's not great at comparing relative sizes.

Most people suck at presenting data.

Instead of telling a story they throw numbers at the audience.

Here are 7 crucial tips to present your data effectively:
#1: Tell a story with your data.

Presenting data is EXACTLY THE SAME as any other type of presentation.

You need to draw your audience in with storytelling.

Find these 3 things:

• Setup
• Conflict
• Resolution

Take time to find the story in your data before create slides.
#2: Never use a single number.

The best presenters know that a single number makes no sense.

Instead COMPARE for more meaning.

"865 subscribers" is meaningless on its own.

But comparison figures give context and help the audience understand you.

I thought I would never run another in-person event again.

But I was wrong.

Here's why you should get out of your pyjamas and go to an actual in-person event:
After DFTB20 was postponed due to COVID, it was a financial millstone around our necks.

I started to believe we could get everything we needed online.

We shouldn't bother with the risk of in-person events any more.

I was mistaken.
I spent last week hanging out with my tribe at #DFTB22.

Seeing our community face-to-face was a thing of beauty.

I now feel:

• Connected
• Energised
• Inspired

The world's most popular browser:

Google Chrome

Unfortunately it sucks your computer memory and slows it to a crawl.

Here are 7 simple ways to speed up Chrome:
Before we start, ensure you're using the latest version of Chrome.

• Click the 3 dots (Options)
• Choose 'help'
• Click 'about Google Chrome'

It'll tell you if yours is up-to-date.

If it's not, update it now.

Let's go.
#1: Clear your browsing data.

As you visit more + more websites, data accumulates in Chrome.

This slows the browser down.

• Choose the 'Chrome' tab
• Click 'clear browsing data'
• Choose 'All time'

Now select which elements you want to clear.

Then clear your data.
