As someone who is a prolific #SoulsBorne player, I have found that there are a few myths about the games that prevent people from giving it a try.

Fact: Soulsborne games are not for everyone, and that is okay! Not everyone needs to like these games. (Games are for EVERYONE)
However, if you have been curious about SoulsBorne games, but the follow myths have put you off from trying it, then give a read and see if they might be for you!

I am also not an expert, just a casual soulsborne fan, who has played through several of the games.
1. SoulsBorne games are just hard!

They are initially difficult, by design. Progress and getting over roadblocks is considered a reward by design.

You also improve your character over time, improving stats, upgrading weapons, trying various elements. You get tools to succeed.
2. SoulsBorne games are unfair!

There are sections, in every SB game, that are unfair. However, these sections are the "make-or-break" part of each game. They are not the whole game nor the whole design.

They are not the best part of the game, but they can always be defeated.
3. Nothing is explained!

Yes and no.

A large portion of things are discovered through exploration and trying it yourself in game.

For everything else, there is a robust community of information. There are wikis that help breakdown and catalogue everything you might need.
3. Nothing is explained! (cont)

There are videos people have made. There is an ingame system of messages for hints, and summoning for help.

The SoulsBorne games are a very large community research game, and everything you are unsure able is explained somewhere.
4. You have to do it all alone!

No! Not at all! Between wikis and messages, there are also summons and plenty of co-op opportunities!

Yes co-op is limited to certain areas and conditions.
Also yes, the PC co-op servers are down for DS1, DS2, and DS3 right now.
4. You have to do it all alone! (cont)

But the idea you have to fight through every SoulsBorne game alone and wallow in secluded misery is totally false.

I love playing SoulsBorne in co-op and have beaten DS1, DS2, DS3 -- and soon ER -- with friends!
5. The only true way to play SoulsBorne is X!

FALSE

While some of the earlier games had less options, every game has many ways to play them, both in terms of order, and play style. There are a large variety of gameplay styles and weapons to match.

You play it how you want to!
6. The story makes NO sense

This is true. At least on your first playthrough, nothing will make any damn sense. But this is by design.

The story of each game has been deeply documented, and theory crafted by the community, so you can always see what we know so far.
6. The story makes NO sense (cont)

Also, the story of each game often has large gaps, with plenty of room for personal interpretation. So while there are some proven story beats, there is always room to theorycraft what happened between these beats.

Bonus: No one is "wrong"
tl;dr There are a lot of myths about SoulsBorne games that turn off people who are potentially interested.

SoulsBorne games are difficult by design, but mostly fair. They are built to be collaborative and community driven. They are NOT about bashing your head into a wall.
So if you've ever been curious, grab one and give it a try! I recommend DS1 Remaster or Elden Ring as good starting places.

Of course, SoulsBorne games are NOT for everyone, and that is okay! You don't have to like them! But they can be very fun for some!
