1/ Here is a story about right to choose to undergo abortion ....
2/ It is a real story from Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. The only son of the couple was killed in Kargil war. His wife was pregnant with her first child.
3/ As per Rules, entire package of benefits for "shahadat" was given to the widowed wife.
4/ Now, the wife and her family decided to terminate the pregnancy so that she may have brighter chances of re-marriage.
5/ The martyr's parents requested the widow not to abort the child as it was their only progeny and a "nishani" of their dead son. But their request was turned down.
6/ The parents of "shaheed" ensured that they will bear entire responsibility of upbringing the child, the mother could keep all the money and re-marry. Request turned down.
7/ The parents of 'shaheed' went to the District Collector who intervened and the woman will not be allowed to abort the unborn child, and will live in her in-laws home till the child was born.
8/ This decision, of course, was under no Rules and purely on humane emotions.
9/ Humanity and society is not a mechanical thing. It runs on inter-personal emotions, traditions and responsibilities. Our Hon. Supreme Court needs to understand that "my body my choice" is OK till it does not intervene with others' rights.
