The mtg for #CCSD Supt Jara’s extension+raise is happening tomorrow a.m. at a work session. Contract amendments have happened at work sessions before, but practice and policy suggest that voting on a major contract amendment at a Wed a.m. work session is not the usual. 🧵1/20

After media reports published yesterday, CCSD/@irenecepedaNV put out this statement. She references a Feb. 3, 2021 work session agenda item re: Jara’s contract, leading up to his first (current) extension 8/20
Trustees did not directly consider extending or changing the terms at that work session. It was a procedural vote to say the contract would not be automatically renewed, as it allowed for at the time, and substantive changes could be done at a separate meeting. 9/20
Jara’s first contract amendment/extension was later approved (4-3 vote) at the regular meeting on May 13, 2021. The only substantive change was extending it through Jan. 15, 2023. 10/20
Other contracts approved or amended in the last 15 years (as far back as the online archives go) that I could find: Jara original in ‘18; Skorkowsky in ‘16 and ‘13; Jones in ‘10; Rulffes in ‘10, ‘09 and ‘07. 11/20

7 of 9 were voted on at regular meetings, except for Rulffes in ‘09 (voluntary pay cut; special work session) and ‘10 (extension + voluntary pay cut; work session). Both of these were during the Great Recession. 18/20
So, yes, within the last 13 years, contracts have been amended at work sessions. But far more recently and often, they have been taken at regular meetings. 19/20
Longtimers: let me know of any other times superintendent contracts have been offered or extended, not just discussed. 20/20

Here's Fernando Romero, saying he will ask the DA to investigate when President EGM became aware of Williams moving and let her keep voting "on certain issues that otherwise would have had different results. I'm sure the students of Lundy will also be glad of this."

The head of the teachers union in CCSD said he didn’t support a revised pay scale that would have better recognized veteran teachers’ education and experience because those teachers were likely to be white and in the suburbs. lasvegassun.com/news/2024/feb/…

As of Feb. 1, teachers who are new to CCSD will be walking on at wages that may be tens of thousands of dollars more per year than teachers who have been in CCSD for years, even if the established local teachers have comparable education and experience.

I cleaned up my running list of licensed separations (of duplicates and misspellings) and can now say that CCSD lost at least 2,156 teachers (and other licensed employees, like nurses, social workers, therapists) during the 21-22 school year. 1/16 🧵
I expect this number isn’t settled – I use the separation lists attached to each trustee meeting agenda, and it can take a while for separations to end up on a list. On the list for the 8/11 meeting, there were dozens with an effective date of May. So with that in mind… 2/16
I’m going to focus on the stated reasons why. 103 out of 2,156 are because the teacher was explicitly “dissatisfied with (the) district.” That’s about 5% of all separations. 3/16 Image

On 7/6 @CCSD_Trustees plan to discuss major proposed amendments to policy on public comment at board mtgs. Suggested changes incl emphasis on civility/decorum, consequences for disorderly conduct, limiting length of comments, and going from 2 general comment periods to 1. 🧵1/5

After timeline presentation, @SuptJaraCCSD says it shows CCSD’s commitment to compliance, despite accusations that they’ve had no interest in state ordered compliance with a “complete overhaul” of the 5th largest district in the US, also in midst of a pandemic. 1/
