Hello - ahead of this week's TROP episode 'The Eye', I want to organise and 'bind' all Halbrand = Sauron arguments I had in one thread.

I won't use screenshots but I'll refer to the show moments as well as the lore, not necessarily implying that they are in line. 0/10
1) The binding. Galadriel says to Halbrand "bind yourself to me" on the raft: A lightning of Manwë strikes. Halbrand wants to "bind" himself to Galadriel. A volcano of Morgoth erupts.

This story's about a power to rule them all & "in the darkness bind them" - yet it won't.
2) The ocean encounter. Encounters like characters meeting in the middle of a massive ocean happen in Tolkien stories only to serve the greatest purpose. Galadriel's importance in the story is equivalent to that of Sauron since according to Tolkien she is his greatest foe
3) Galadriel's temptation to replace Sauron. In FotR, we witness her feelings about ruling Middle-earth as a terrifying queen. TROP season 1 portrays Galadriel as someone who is becoming more and more violent and confessing this ONLY to Halbrand who feels sympath for her
4) Halbrand accepting to follow Galadriel in her quest after Galadriel speaks of the shadow in her heart that made everyone betray her. Sauron was betrayed by Adar for the very same cruelty Adar saw in him. That's the moment Sauron sees Galadriel as a partner
5) Galadriel's test. She will be forgiven when she refuses all that she desired comes to her hands, which is as Tolkien says, "the dominion of the Middle-earth". Sauron wanted the same. Halbrand and Galadriel bonded over sympathy in the first season.
6) Halbrand is a manipulative, good looking smith with fighting skills and a dark history. He hates Adar, is afraid of going back to Middle-earth where he failed at something we don't know.
7) "Tides of fate are flowing". First thing Halbrand said to Galadriel in the show are the words of Galadriel after she refused to take the ring from Frodo hence why passing the test for not becoming the new Sauron of Middle-earth.
8) Galadriel would not feel such a strong connection to a character like the Witch King or the King of the Dead, or any other human. She has one equivalent only and that is Sauron per Tolkien implies. Her story makes the most sense when it's directly tied to that of Sauron.
9) Halbrand's reveal as Sauron would serve as a breaking point Galadriel needs to start diverting from the shadow. This would serve as a story element that will make her realise that unknowingly she did not become Sauron-like only but also his companion and turn to light
10) Númenor & Mordor. According to Tolkien, Sauron chooses to make Mordor his kingdom ONLY after he figures how strong Númenor has become - as a means of countering their impact over the southern ME. Halbrand has just witnessed the glory of Númenor.
11) The grey Sauron. After Morgoth's defeat, there was a period when Sauron wanted to recover ME from the damages it endured. His obsession with this effort slowly, once more, outgrew his love for the ME. Halbrand could represent a Sauron in transition, who is seeking a purpose
12) A song of ice and fire, a tale of water and flame, black and white, Vader and Luke, Harry and Voldemort, myths, religions, stories of temptation...

The story of Galadriel and Sauron is a story of temptation and diversion. They were together this season.
I started with 10 tweets but it ended up being 12... Forgot to edit the first tweet before tweeting, sorry!

I have many more thoughts on this but I'll stop here for now.

I've been thinking about Galadriel in TROP and I realised that her story here is gonna be about actively choosing to un-Sauronify herself: A thread

I'll explain this through the assumption that Halbrand is Sauron because then the writing of the show makes sense to me. 1/7
That's because they make each other feel like they can move on from the past & achieve a better future. The connection they feel is an invitation for both of them to achieve something great. 2/7
Sauron's intentions are grey at that moment: He wants perfect order in the world (but through questionable means) and Galadriel has some mixed goals but also through very questionable, harsh means that made her a near-Sauron Machiavellian. 3/7

The conflict within the Tolkien fandom about character interpretations will be even more intense in September

While debating with others, one thing we need to bear in mind is that no art form is free of the consumer’s subconscious appetite: a thread about the ‘lacy divinity'
The reason we get obsessed with things; become followers, fans, simps or any kind of admirers is strongly tied to how the artistic product feeds both the conscious and subconscious fantasies and desires we have
Under the reality of our own desires, the source material will serve little to no arbitration for disappointment bc it’s open to interpretation & the author is dead. At this point, the fantasy at hand is less about evidence and more about what we wish to fantasise about

I’m really tired of explaining again and again that we don’t know what Amazon did with Galadriel…

Surely she won’t be swinging her sword around for 5 seasons since the show runners said they wanna show how these characters change and grow into who they are in the 3rd age
And she might swing her sword around for 5 seasons while becoming less of a headstrong rebel and more of a wise leader. She was a different woman in her youth. Tolkien emphasises that several times in his notes.

Why is it so hard to wait and see? Why can’t we just chill…
What mistakes Galadriel will make? How will she grow into a different woman? How will becoming a ring-bearer change her? How will marrying and becoming a mother change her? What will she feel when she loses her only living close relatives?

Aren’t you curious and excited at all?

When I look at this poster and the three characters in it I can't help but sadly think...

If Finrod was alive, he would presumably be the High-King of Noldor in early SA instead of Gil-Galad. Yet he stands there as a memory carved out on stone.
It seems that, and also acknowledged by Christopher, Tolkien's latest inclination was that Gil-Galad was Galadriel's great-nephew & nor Finrod neither Fingon had children.
In this scenario, Galadriel was the eldest remaining member of the House of Finwë, but succession laws would require Gil-Galad to rule.

What's interesting is that, again, Tolkien himself was not so sure about this decision. Galadriel could've been the High-Queen of Noldor.

What details support the Halbrand = Sauron theory?

Here's some (my main theory is in the last tweet): Galadriel, Sauron's chief adversary in the ME and the main character of the show, runs into Halbrand in early episodes and spends the season by his side. 1/5 Image
After Halbrand giving Galadriel an 'ear-check' and realising whom she might be, he ends up in Númenor with her.

In many promotional material, we see Galadriel telling someone "fight with me" in a commanding/inviting manner. This person is most probably Halbrand. Why? 2/5
Halbrand's 'running from his past' & Galadriel is chasing nothing but the past. She's eager to avenge an old enemy for the late brother/s. Their disagreement begins here and it's normal Galadriel would want to convince Halbrand, now a friend, stop running and start fighting. 3/5 Image

Disclaimer: This is NOT A SERIOUS thread/speculation/theory. I'm just gonna have some fun.

Hmm in the Fandom interview with TROP characters, Cynthia Addai-Robinson is wearing a cream look very similar to Míriel's dress 1/5 ImageImage
What's that? Oh, it's Charlie Vickers wearing a cardigan with fish scale-like pattern similar to Halbrand's armour... Hmm. 2/5 ImageImage
Okay, Trystan Gravelle wearing a dark shade of blue like Pharazôn and the same day, Nazanin Boniadi wearing blue like Bronwyn in another interview... 3/5 ImageImageImageImage
