Those looking for the paper about harm done to women because if the loss of sex based language in health and maternity services - here you go: frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
This is why I am so angry that my first minister and many members of @theSNP say “the proposed GRA changes will not impact women’s rights”. It already has. It is unforgivable for elected representatives to ignore expert evidence because it is inconvenient. #womenWontWheesht.
Those protesting at Holyrood are the mothers, we see the pain of the people who have gender differences, (some of us are people with gender differences) but we do not think that the impact on women with learning disabilities, with English as a second language, neurodiversity >
trauma, faith requirements, literacy challenges or who just want PRIVACY have been considered by our government. We are not going to accept that women who can’t say “no”, who are unable to advocate for themselves, who are vulnerable, should be put at risk because another >
group wants to be given extra rights. Scotland has equality in law, we all have equal rights. I want to keep mine because some women really need them. This is a long game, and the one thing that all mothers learn is patience.
Interesting. “Threat” is the exact word used to describe me by people who knew me and had not taken the time to see my show at the fringe. This is not an easy video, @SVPhillimore and @andrewdoyle_com have both been through the sex/gender mill. >
It is striking that the language and process that I experienced in the last few weeks is exactly the same as @SVPhillimore describes. Mine was not in the glorious technicolour that these people have experienced, and I’m glad of that >
The nature of the “threat” I represent, and to whom, remains unexplained. The idea that a fat, frumpy, fifty year old mild mannered bleeding heart healthcare professional would be any kind of a threat would be laughable- if I didn’t know what had happened to @SVPhillimore et al
It would be fine to have a male@person in this role if we had addressed the health issues which surround menstruation. Women usually suffer for about a decade before being diagnosed with endometriosis and then there is a bit of a “nae luck” outcome as the treatment is not great
So, it’s quite hard to accept that my government, who say they want to establish Scotland as global leaders in womens health, have appointed a male person who has no background in womens health or womens issues to sort out the taboos and stigma which surround our female functions
I’m sure this chap is enthusiastic about his role, but it is going to take more than a red polo shirt to get women to engage in talking about menstruation. Especially women of faith, women who want privacy and women who are rolling their eyes so hard they now have a headache.
