So tired of being blamed for the “uncertainty” in Education. We ARE the certainty. We are the people who showed up during a global pandemic and made the best out of a terrible, uncertain time. Here’s just a few of the ways EDUCATION WORKERS showed up for kids :
Hosted an outdoor graduation “ceremony” for students who were graduating - where we took photos of students in caps and gowns (that we also washed and dryed same day) that we then e-mailed to
Students to help them celebrate their accomplishments.
We collected, organized, cleaned and DELIVERED technology to students. To their homes in many cases.
Staff designed and printed graduation t-shirts for grads to help them celebrate. Which we then HAND DELIVERED to every grad at our school with their transcript and diploma. @osbcucscso
Staff at my school still gathered and delivered food hampers for families in need DESPITE the global pandemic, because a pandemic doesn’t stop the needs of our students. @cupe4222
Custodians showed up at their job to help clean and organize devices to be handed out to students. Clean the device, label it, bag it and distribute.
EA’s showed up for students to learn when schools were shut for every other student. They were there working with our most vulnerable students.
Our IT department worked diligently to answer millions of technology based questions about google classroom, bright space, logins etc. for thousands of students who were suddenly learning online.
We have shown up and made it work BECAUSE of the kids, and DESPITE the government - and we deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and FAIR WAGES. #39kIsNotEnough
@RandomSecretary I am sure you can add to this list!
We answered thousands of phone calls from parents and kids who were nervous/anxious/scared about online learning. I HAND DELIVERED paper packages for students who were unable to access internet. My coworker organized and distributed hundreds of internet devices for kids.
@RobFlackPC Further to my e-mails to your office - please see the following thread. I won’t be quiet “for the kids” but I WILL be loud FOR them. #39kIsNotEnough
@RobFlackPC (office) Response to my e-mail. I agree a strong Education System is imperative. After that, I disagree wholeheartedly. Other sectors ARE seeing increases. I am NOT THE REASON for uncertainty.
@RobFlackPC Fun fact….. apparently the priorities might be skewed.
@RobFlackPC One more little fun fact for the day. $365 MILLION in direct payments to “catch kids up”. Do not EVER tell me that I cannot be paid a fair wage when this is the kind of stunt your government is pulling. YOU ARE THE REASON kids are “behind”.
