GQ excerpt of [Anonymous] interview with director Cheng Er —🧵
"After Wang Yibo entered the production team there was a really long period without any other planned schedules, he was asked to remain alone in the hotel room—
—not allowed to play games, to check his phone, to leave the production to shoot commercials, or even communicate with with his friends and family daily. He stayed in the hotel until he was having a little anxiety—
—until a week later, when he was "released", Cheng Er then spent a huge amount of time to explain the history of that time, the character in the script and the envisaged performance and emphasis—
—"Till now, Cheng Er still advises him to be alone sometimes. "Because his life is still loud and noisy, he needs to learn how to spend the day quietly alone." (end)
