This is the hero from Kythera, Greece. His name is Michalis Protopsaltis. He is the one who used his crane and rescued 80 people trying to themselves tight in a steep rock after the shipwerk. The photo and the story arw taken by someone and I will share them below 👇
"My name is Michalis Protopsaltis and I live in Kythira.
This was my journey. I own a crane and that's what I do for a living.
I have carried so many building materials all over the island, in licensed and illegal constructions, so people can have their own house."
"I enjoy my work. My construction materials have a soul..the sand and even iron.
On the 6th of October, I came back home tired
as always, I wasn't in the best mood, I poured a glass of wine, took off my shoes.. all day at work my feet hurt."
"The sea tonight is rough.. god saves those who are at its mercy tonight, I said and laid down to watch the news. Soon I heard voices coming from the sea. So many voices, I couldn't understand what they were saying.
I felt they needed help, there the rocks are high and sharp."
"I shook, went outside, took the crane and went to the sea. I turned on the lights and saw a crowd of people on the cliff with their hands up asking for help, the waves were wild, deadly, I immediately hung the sandbag on the hook and started to lift the survivors two by two."
"I've never run the crane so hard. I was saying to myself, oh my god, 80 souls just got out of hell.
The others couldn't. Women, men, children.
I leaned against the truck, the engine was still running like a praying mother. I cried."
"The sea was screaming below, for the first time, the crane struggled so much..even though they say that souls are like feathers, they are heavier than iron.
I came home late, drank the glass of wine in one go. I took off my shoes and I lay down."
"I thought the material we build the world are the souls; legally or illegally. I crossed myself again and fell asleep.
Then I felt like I had no weight, I was like a feather. I didn't watch the news that night."
