Have been observing NYT reportage on India for a while now & it is very clear that their reports are skewed in a certain direction. What they do is no longer journalism but propaganda. Let me share a few examples to illustrate my point: #NYTPropaganda 1/10
Let’s start with NYT reporting on Russia-Ukraine war. Cherry-picked data is used to claim that India is financing the conflict when in fact Europe is the major buyer of energy from Russia. WHY make pre-determined argument against India? #NYTPropaganda 2/10 nytimes.com/2022/06/24/bus…
The West has failed to control Russia through sanctions & is now hurting due to high energy prices. This article tries to portray India as a ‘lucky’ beneficiary/ co-conspirator. WHY shift blame without any reason? #NYTPropaganda 3/10 nytimes.com/2022/06/21/wor…
Recall NYT covid reporting?“This Is a Catastrophe" screamed a headline. The gory, insensitive piece gave exaggerated, unscientific account of deaths in India & ignored numbers in many Western nations that exceeded India.WHY the imbalance? #NYTPropaganda 4/10 nytimes.com/2021/04/27/wor…
Read "Expanding Influence Abroad, Straining Democracy at Home”. It's a collection of random, fact free assertions by the reporter. There are no quotes by real people, just opportunistic use of the phrase ‘experts say’.WHY make things up? #NYTPropaganda 5/10 nytimes.com/2022/09/24/wor…
This is about a nationwide strike in India.Strike was a dud!Few stray organisations created some noise but life in all parts of India went on normally.NYT readers were made to believe tht India had ground to a halt.WHY peddle falsehood? #NYTPropaganda 6/10 nytimes.com/2022/03/28/wor…
Here NYT rails against the arrest of Teesta Setalvad. They paint her as a messiah of the victims, justify her anti-institution war & mention the actual charges against her- of falsifying evidence -in passing. WHY shill for an accused? #NYTPropaganda 7/10 nytimes.com/2022/06/26/wor…
This article on the “blasphemy” protests focuses more on the fact that Nupur Sharma was a BJP spokesperson & less on what she said & why? WHY hide context & sequence of events and only present a one sided, dubious narrative? #NYTPropaganda 8/10 nytimes.com/2022/06/11/wor…
Hate Speech in India seems to be of great interest to NYT but their report somehow leaves out the judicial processes put in place to curb such incidents. WHY such lack of objectivity? #NYTPropaganda 9/10 nytimes.com/2022/02/08/wor…
These are just some examples of how #NYTpropaganda against India runs. Be it coverage of domestic issues or geopolitics, there's a pattern of obfuscation, omission & misreporting. News from India is always negative for NYT & her growth story is tempered with ifs & buts. WHY? 10/10

In an interview about his new book @Barugaru1 made a statement that gives a glimpse of the old dispensation’s confusion. He said that people like Sanjeev Sanyal have had to declass themselves to fit in with the new dispensation. Example he gave was his wearing of the dhoti 1/n
I’ve been married for 25 years & the man has always worn dhotis. I think Sanjaya used the dhoti as a random example. It was a really a metaphor for the confusion that people with all the “Western elite” ticks could somehow be rooted in tradition,& actually celebrate it 2/n
Sanjeev isn’t the first one from his family who studied abroad nor is he the last. His great grandfather had a PhD from LSE & still wore a dhoti. His maternal grandmother was a Fulbright Fellow & only wore a saree 3/n
Asking again: On what basis is a therapist taking to media,or leaking client details? Confidentiality is valid even after death . And only a court can ask for client records.
Therapists talking in public,or media leaking reports is perverse & unethical. Absolutely appalling. 1/n
Reaching out during emotional distress is v.hard for people as 1/ there’s stigma 2/few understand the gravity of mental health issues 3/there is fear about confidentiality breaches.
Irresponsible media coverage just made it harder for people to seek help #SushantCase 2/n
Media folks who are brazenly exploiting the alleged mental health issues of a dead man for TRPs should pray that your loved ones never have to deal with mental health issues in this country. YOU ghouls just made it ok for a therapist to breach a sacred contract #SushantCase 3/n
Many know of #Assam tea, muga silk, the one horned rhino & bihu. Not many know of the state's historical heritage. Last month I set out to explore the fascinating area around #Sivasagar, the seat of the Ahom dynasty that ruled Assam for over 600 years. 1/n
Our 1st stop was at #RangGhar -the royal pavilion for nobility to watch sports/cultural activities.Built in the 18th century, its bricks were cemented with a mix of local sticky rice, pulses, egg shells etc.Note the roof shaped like an inverted boat 2/n
Next was #TalatalGhar or royal place. It has 4 floors above & 3 below ground level, with a series of tunnels to confuse the enemy.Wooden structures of the palace didn’t survive but u can see the shrines to Shiva & ancestors,& maternity wing etc 3/n
