Russian Foreign Ministry confirms re-equipping of Belarusian Su-25 to carry nuclear weapons.
Last night, the Kremlin’s RIA News reported on a statement by Konstantin Vorontsov, the deputy head of the Russian delegation at the UNGA First Committee meeting. 1/6
According to him, Russia is transferring dual-equipped Iskander-M systems to Belarus and re-equipping some Belarusian Su-25 aircraft with the technical capability to carry nuclear weapons.
2/6
“At this stage, we are talking only about the transfer of dual-equipped Iskander-M systems with missiles in conventional equipment to the Republic of Belarus, as well as giving some of the Belarusian Su-25 aircraft the technical capability to carry nuclear weapons.
3/6
At the same time, it’s not expected to transfer the technology for re-equipping aircraft to carry nuclear weapons to Belarus,” the Russian diplomat said.
4/6
He also added that at the moment “it’s also not expected to physically equip Belarusian systems with nuclear warheads or to transfer such warheads to the territory of Belarus.”
5/6
We remind that Lukashenka first spoke about the re-equipping of Su-25 at a meeting with Putin on June 25. Later, in late August, he said that the aircraft had already been re-equipped to carry nuclear weapons.
