"We’ve been hearing a lot about an upcoming flood of investigations from Republicans should they come back into power in the House. What kind of investigations are we talking about here? Do you think some of these folks will try to impeach Biden right away?"
Russell:
"Have you heard of Hunter Biden, the president’s surviving son? If by some chance you haven’t, you and every other American surely will if and when Republicans control the House.
"They have pledged to pursue all manner of investigations against the younger Biden and his business ventures overseas.
"Republicans are also almost certain to launch investigations over the Biden administration’s southern-border policy and the criminal probes into Trump and his allies by the Justice Department under Attorney General Merrick Garland.
"As for impeachment(s), Trump loyalists such as Gaetz and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene have made clear that they expect GOP leaders to back the attempted removal not only of Biden but of members of his Cabinet, ...
"including Garland & the secretary of homeland security, Alejandro Mayorkas. Of course, the chances of the Senate mustering 67 votes for a conviction of Biden, Garland, or Mayorkas, even if Republicans recapture that chamber, are next to nil—a fact GOP leaders are well aware of."

Historically high turnout favors Democrats. Mid-terms have lower turnouts than presidential elections. Early voting can give us some idea of whether this will be a high or low turnout year. At least in GA, the signs are positive.
GA doesn't identify votes by party, because there is no party registration. So we have to look for other positive signs. Here are a couple:
1. Higher than usual black voting. The number is 32%, which is a couple of points higher than the norm.
2. Women currently account for 54% of votes cast in GA. In Kansas and several special elections Democrats have dramatically outperformed expectations. Women angered about the Dobbs decision are turning out to vote.
Recent polling says the top 3 issues for voters, are crime, inflation, & abortion. The GOP is winning on crime & inflation, because they've convinced the public Democrats are the problem.
Republicans are aggressively selling the narrative that the rise in crime is caused by Democratic policies such as "defund the police". That's just plain wrong. It's more of a red state problem than a blue city problem.
But who you look at the facts, "Republicans do a far better job blaming others for high murder rates than actually reducing high murder rates."
"Steve Bannon has been sentenced to four months in prison and has been ordered to pay a fine of $6,500." abcnews.go.com/US/live-update…
The prosecution asked for a six month sentence.Judge Nichols said Bannon won't have to serve his sentence while he appeals the conviction. The appeal heads to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals (and possibly SCOTUS).
I'd be very surprised if Bannon doesn't serve his full sentence before January 20, 2025, when we swear in our next president. In other words, I don't see Bannon getting pardoned before he does his time.
Luttig rejects the independent state legislature doctrine.
That's the theory TFG's supporters tried to use to overturn the certified electoral college votes in AZ, GA, MI, NV, PA & WI.
"The Supreme Court will decide before next summer the most important case for American democracy in the almost two and a half centuries since America’s founding.
"In Moore v. Harper, the Court will finally resolve whether there is a doctrine of constitutional interpretation known as the 'independent state legislature.'
"Retired federal Judge J. Michael Luttig – considered a legal luminary in conservative circles – is joining with voting rights groups as a co-counsel in a Supreme Court case ...
"in order to persuade the justices to reject an obscure legal theory that has been promoted by supporters of former President Donald Trump.
"Luttig played a key role in the run up to the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack, advising then-Vice President Mike Pence’s legal team against claims from Trump allies like attorney John Eastman.
"Mr. Mnuchin’s brief testimony as a defense witness in the trial in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn was an indication of how lawyers for Mr. Barrack plan to contest the charges at trial —
"by depicting his actions as normal business, and by attempting to show that he did not favor the Emiratis." nytimes.com/2022/10/20/nyr…
"The government rested its case Wednesday, having called 14 witnesses since the trial began five weeks ago.
