From its inception, I questioned adding "T" to "LGB" as one had nothing to do with the other. It never made logical sense. But I let it go. After all, "transsexuals" were a very small cohort and I had no issue with people with gender dysphoria pursuing treatment.
But then, over the past decade, this small cohort has become an ideological mob, threatening the foundation of women's sex-based rights, threatening the health and well-being of children with unnecessary surgeries and experimental medications, and threatening gay rights.
At first, my instinct was to be open and listen, especially when so many of my friends, colleagues and neighbors seemed to embrace "trans" ideology. I read as much as I could (from all perspectives) and talked in depth with people who identify as "trans" and "non-binary."
But what I realized over time is that there is no there, there. The Emperor has no clothes. "Trans" ideology is a regressive and dangerous social contagion steeped in misogyny and gender stereotypes.
Of course, there still are a small number of people with serious body dysphoria. They should have access to medical and mental health services to relieve their suffering. But the movement/cult that has been built on the backs of those individuals must be exposed and stopped.
Unfortunately, this ideology/theology is a social contagion. It is rapidly being incorporated into law and policy (including language requirements). Sadly, its incorporation into educational policy means a generation of children are being raised on it.
I posted previously that a neighbor of mine reported that more than 25% of her son's public school 5th grade class (and the teacher) identify as "trans." How many of those children will go on to medical interventions and how many parents will support that?
Despite the exponential growth of this ideology, I find that most people support the ideology of "trans" inclusion unwittingly. They still think of "trans" as that small cohort of people with terrible body dysphoria who pursue treatment to relieve suffering.
They do not understand the implications of "self-id" and the reality that most men identifying as "trans women" do not suffer from body dysphoria but rather autogynephilia, a sexual kink (f/k/a cross-dressing).
It is mind-blowing to me that people on left support this ideology given the damage to children & young adults. Many (especially women) pursue irreversible surgeries, like bilateral mastectomies. Many children are sold experimental hormone blockers which cause permanent effects.
The very idea of being "trans" means discomfort with one's biological body. Children are already incredibly vulnerable to body image issues. Selling them "trans" (or "non-binary") ideology as a trendy alternative will only increase that kind of dangerous self-hatred.
I see glimmers of hope recently. I see the occasional article about why it's unfair for men (identifying as women) competing against women in sports. I see people bravely speak up about women's sex-based rights to safety, privacy and fairness.
I see people questioning puberty blockers for young children. And I see gay people calling out the homophobic insistence that they date people based on self-declared "gender" rather than sex. Trans ideology rejects same-sex attraction.
Of course, when people speak up, they are targets of the ideological mob. See e.g. J.K. Rowling (and so many others). But speak up we must. Whether it is an oped, a court case, a school committee meeting, or one-on-one conversations.
As noted, I started on this with road with an open mind seeking to learn as much as possible. That has led me to the inescapable conclusion that "trans ideology" is a dangerous cult-like, theology posing grave harm to women, children & gay people.
I am fed up and feel disheartened daily by the reach and growth of this ideology. But, I am inspired by all of the people I see fighting this battle, often at great cost. Onward!

I came out as a lesbian at age 16 in the mid-1970s and I've been an "out" lesbian since then. Indeed, I was expelled from my first college dorm for being gay and I've been called "queer," a slur, more times that I count.
I would have been so happy when I was a young lesbian, if I knew then that someday I could legally marry and I'd be able to be a mom; if I'd known that positive social change can happen so quickly.
But I would never have believed it then (I barely believe it now) that in 2022: a) straight men would "identify" as lesbians b) lesbians would be called "transphobic" for not wanting to sleep with them and c) "queer" would be considered appropriate as a descriptor of gay people.
Do you ever wonder why there is no male equivalent for "Terf?" Do you ever wonder why there isn't a big issue about women identifying as "trans" playing on mens' teams?" Do you ever wonder why most of the trans ideologue vitriol comes from men at women? See e.g.JK Rowling.Answer:
Trans ideology is a men's rights movement. From it's earliest days a primary goal was to invade women's spaces. Men identifying as "trans" protested their exclusion from the Michigan Women's Music Festival which has been a safe & joyful environment for lesbians for 4 decades.
They ultimately destroyed it. Ask yourself-why didn't they attend any other of dozens of mix-sexed music festivals? Why the only festival by and for women? Answer:
Decades ago,the gay rights movement made a huge strategic error by adding "T" to LGB. It was obvious then that one of these things is not like the other. Now, the chickens have come home to roost. "T" is causing significant damage to gay rights & reversing decades of progress.
A current strategic error is accepting that "gender" is something other than sex. Gender and sex are used by most people as synonyms. See e.g. gender reveal. It is "gender identity" not "gender" that is the problem and treating those terms as synonyms is a mistake.
This is a huge problem because law and policy are being written with the word "gender" substituted for sex. Then, after the fact, the word "gender" is read to include imaginary gender identities. It is a dangerous Trojan horse.
@SecCardona Forgiving student loans is a regressive policy that favours the upper middle class. 60% of debt is owed by the top 40% and income limits are meaningless when it is the parents paying off the loans. This is about class.
Why don't you pay off small business truck loans or mortgages that burden low income borrowers? I'm kidding-don't do that either. Further, we already have multiple programs for loan forgiveness in appropriate circumstances.
Leave this alone. It is misguided and reinforces the idea that Democrats are not the party of the working class.
When they hear "trans" a lot of people on the left imagine the former meaning of trans-someone truly suffering from lifelong gender dysphoria. So, of course, they sympathize. But "trans" doesn't mean that anymore.
It now largely means men with autogynephilia, a sexual kink, who keep their male bodies fully intact. Current trans ideology says a man can just declare-presto-I'm a woman and have access to women's spaces.
I don't know anyone who doesn't empathize with someone suffering with the rare condition of sex dysphoria. They should have medical and psychological support, as needed.
There are so many things most people do not know about trans ideology. These are some of them:
"Trans" used to mean "transexual"- a very small group of people (mostly men) who suffered from a lifelong sense of gender dysphoria and sought medical remedies (hormones and surgery) to relieve their suffering.
Now, the vast majority of men identifying as "trans" are straight men with autogynephilia, they derive sexual pleasure from thinking of themselves as women. We used to call this "cross-dressing."
