An insistent knocking of his front door shook Atsumu out of the bubble of misery he found himself in. Standing from his place on the couch, he wiped his nose of the snot that had begun to drip due to his tears
The knocking continues until he finally reaches the door. He swung the open door, ready to birate the person disturbing his wallowing, only to pause at the sight of his best friend standing at the threshold, eyes rimmed red similar to his.
“Tsumu-chan.” Tooru sniffled, tears streaming down his face.
“Tooru?” Atsumu questions looking at the crying man in front of him holding what appeared to be a grocery bag full of…ice cream? “What happened?”
“Iwa-chan dumped me!” The tears flowed freely at the admission.
His words made Atsumu’s restrained tears fall as well. Now both men were crying at the door.
“W-why are y-you crying?” Tooru asks incredulously through his hiccups.
“Omi-Omi dumped me too.” Atsumu wailed.
“Oh sweetheart!” Tooru sniffles and throws his arms around him.
“H-he said this was all too much that he couldn’t do it anymore. What the hell does that even mean!? Things were going so well!” The blond clutched his best friend’s hoodie (that kind of looked like Iwaizumi’s) hiding his face.
Tooru shushed him and ran a hand through his wavy hair “He’s an idiot, Tsumu-chan! Iwa is too! We don’t need them anyways!” He says, his voice sounding wet from his crying “I brought ice cream and wine, I say we forget about those jackasses and enjoy the night together!”
Atsumu pulled away allowing Tooru to wipe his eyes gently, a small smile lighting up his face for the first time all day “Yer right Tooru-kun. Come on, I’ll pour us a drink!”
Leading his best friend into the apartment, Atsumu entered the kitchen to pull out two wine glasses
while Tooru grabbed a couple of spoons for each tub of ice cream.
The taller man immediately noticed that all pictures of Atsumu and Sakusa had been taken down around the apartment.
How heartbreaking.
It made tears well in his eyes knowing his own home looked about the same.
They gathered on the couch, both clad in oversized hoodies with a tub of ice cream, strawberry and cookies & cream respectively, in their laps and a glass of wine in one hand.
Atsumu turned on a romance movie, one with a bittersweet ending knowing they still had time until midnight.
Tooru laid his head on Atsumu’s shoulder feeling just a little better about his situation.
His best friend had that affect on him.
“Ya know, it was sweet of them ta fake dump us like that.” Atsumu says after sometime with a hint of laughter in his voice.
“I agree, it really makes this whole experience even better.” Tooru snickers, shoving a spoonful of ice cream into his mouth “How long until
the album releases?”
Atsumu picks up his phone to check the time “About an hour.”
“Perfect.” Tooru hums happily burrowing deeper into the couch “Gives me time to get into character again.”
Atsumu chuckles at that.
“What do ya think they’re doing right now?” The blond asks taking some of the ice cream Tooru offered him.
The brunette shrugged uncaringly “Probably lame stupid guy stuff.”
Across the city Iwaizumi and Sakusa clinked their beer bottles in celebration (and solidarity) of their boyfriend free night.
“So…” Sakusa says after a moment of silence “The PowerPoint worked on you too?”
“Yep.” Iwaizumi let’s out a long suffering sigh “Did Atsumu cry?”
“Like a baby. Oikawa?”
Iwaizumi snorted before taking a drink of his beer “You would have thought I was /actually/ dumping him.”
Sakusa rolled his eyes and took a sip of his own drink knowing he’d probably need a lot more alcohol in his system in order to survive the night.
After all they were both dating the two most dramatic men in the world but well….they wouldn’t have it any other way.
