We're starting off with Karol Rosa vs. Lina Lansberg.

Did you know that in the UAE, men can obtain a divorce at will, but women must apply for a court order to obtain a divorce. If denied, husbands can agree to a divorce in exchange for compensation. Yep, pay to leave.

#UFC280
Mokaevvs. Gordon coming up.

Did you know that murder is a life sentence in Abu Dhabi? However, because the husband's family is also the wife's family, if the husband murders the wife, the family may "pardon" the husband, resulting in a lighter seven year sentence.

Petrosyan vs. Dobson up next.

You probably knew that homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death in the UAE, but did you know that Amazon blocked search results for LGBTQ+ products after pressure from UAE authorities? #UFC280

Nurmagomedov vs. Omargadzhiev on deck.

Just this. #UFC280
Krylov vs. Oezdemir

Did you know that The UAE is one of the leading members of the military actions against Yemen, conducting thousands of airstrikes against the country since 2015? In 2016, they targeted a school for girls. In 2017, they bombed a school for blind kids.

#UFC280
You might think that these were accidents, but the UAE and Saudi Arabia often target schools and education centers, claiming that they're being used to train combatants.

Where do they get the weaponry to do this?

Yep. The United States.

Muradov vs. Borralho

Did you know that in 2021, the UAE adducted at least 375 legal African workers from their homes in a night time raid. They were imprisoned, starved, beaten, shackled? and sexually assaulted, for up to six weeks.

They were denied representation.

#UFC280
Sorry for the above punctuation. You're smart enough to figure out what goes where. I'm not going to retweet it. Shit happens.
Muhammad vs. Brady

Speaking of prison, in 2019, after 4 years of being tortured, subjected to solitary confinement, being shackled, a lack of toilet access, food, and medicine, Alia Abdel Nour died in a UAE prison. She was arrested for raising funds for Syrian refugees.

Main card has some multi-round posts. Sorry. (Sorry?)
We start off the PPV with Chookagian vs. Fiorot

Round 1:

While women have the right to protection against their abusers, the law only prevents husbands or family members from "*exceeding* his guardianship, jurisdiction, authority, or responsibility."

#UFC280
Round 2:

This means that abuse is not outlawed, only that authorities decide whether a male has "gone to far". When decided as such, law prefers reconciliation over criminal action, which puts the woman back in harm.

#UFC280
Round 3:

In fact, when a woman leaves her husband, she may be ordered by the courts to return to the home.

#UFC280
Dariush vs. Gamrot

Most media in the UAE is owned by groups with ties to the government, which regulates media & eliminates content that criticizes the government or threatens "social cohesion", both terms vague enough to include anything the government disagrees with.

#UFC280
Journalists and bloggers have to constantly be aware of what they say and face fears of being arrested or deported for their content or criticisms. I can't think of how that might be relevant in regards to the UFC. Anyway, excited for this fight.
Yan vs. O'Malley

Round 1:

Did you know that while in the UAE, workers are legally tied to their employers? They're not allowed to change employers or leave jobs without permission. If they do so, they may be fined, deported, or imprisoned.

#UFC280
Round 2:

Further, some migrant workers who are recruited for jobs in the UAE are forcibly transferred to other countries to work. Migrant workers often face unpaid wages, sexual assault, confinement, and excessively long hours.

#UFC280
Round 3:

Employers also often confiscate migrant documentation to trap them.

#UFC280
Co-Main time!! Sterling vs. Dillashaw

Andrew Tate would be right at home in the UAE, where martial rape is not a crime. Married women must have a "lawful excuse" to resist sex.

#UFC280
Bonus: Laws were changed in 2020 and in 2021, but in 2013, a Norwegian woman was raped in Abu Dhabi. She was sentenced to 16 months in prison for having extramarital sex, unlicensed alcohol use, and perjury. Her rapist was sentenced to 13 months. (She was later pardoned.)
Bonus: In 2016, a British woman was raped by two British men in Dubai. Because the men were due to leave the country hours after they were arrested, they were allowed to leave w/o charges. The woman was arrested & jailed for having extramarital sex & her passport was confiscated.
Main event time!! Chuckie Olives vs. Islam Makhachev.

Sportswashing is bad.
