There’s a lot of analysis out there that, in my view, is completely missing the point about both the stakes of this election *and* the GOP’s platform.
Let’s dig in. 1/X
Yes, the GOP wants to go after Women’s Rights, Social Security, Voting Rights, Medicare, Medicaid, and the separation of church and state.
That’s all unpopular stuff.
The GOP does *not* care about electability anymore — they envision a future in which votes don’t matter. 2/X
First, a little bit of backstory for context:
The GOP’s base has been shrinking for decades. We outnumber them by a lot, and they know it.
Even still, they refuse to budge from their antiquated ideas and draconian enforcement measures. 3/X
So what’s a party with a dwindling base and an unpopular platform to do?
Easy:
Coordinated fear-mongering from their well-oiled propaganda machine, voter suppression, and a war on schools. 4/X
The constant barrages of caravans, big bad Dems coming to take your guns, claims of open borders, etc. are all a coordinated plot to keep their voters angry and voting.
To be clear: they know it’s bullshit, they also know their voters aren’t smart enough to realize that. 5/X
Speaking of dumb voters, the GOP war on schools isn’t a coincidence, either. They aren’t banning those books because they hurt their feelings, they’re banning those books because those are the blueprints they’re trying to use. 6/X
The GOP doesn’t care about “wokeness,” they care about the inevitable drift away from the GOP that comes with being able to be the person you want to be, and having the ability to think for yourself. 7/X
Different is bad. Anything that doesn’t conform to the hive-mind singularity is “woke” and wokeness means caravans of LGBTQ+ teaches are coming to take your guns and force you to have rainbow hair and binge watch Queer Eye. 8/X
So anyway, the GOP has decided that doing all of this is exhausting. Being perpetually outraged, promising year after year that Dems are coming for your guns, keeping voters stupid and scared, etc. is a lot of work, right?
So why not just steal power? 9/X
Harper v Moore is the most prominent bill out there right now, but it’s far from the only GOP attempt at election powergrabbing.
They want to be able to change votes. They want to invalidate your vote. That’s why they don’t care that nobody likes their platform. 10/X
The way I see it, we have a couple of make-or-break elections coming up. The pundits are already telling you that the midterms are over, at least for the House, but that’s nonsense. Turnout in Georgia should show everyone with doubts that we’re still very much in this. 11/X
If we do our jobs in 22 and 24, we can send an unequivocal message to the GOP that America doesn’t support their bullshit.
If we don’t, it’s not hyperbole to say that the Republic could be changed forever. 12/X
The House isn’t out of reach, and expanding the Senate is well-within our grasp. We just have to vote.
Sharing stuff on Twitter is great, but we need to be doing everything we can for the next 10 days to get as many people to the polls as possible. 13/X
If the turnout trends in Georgia extrapolate to the rest of the nation, I feel *very* confident in our ability to hold the House and expand the Senate by 2-4 seats.
If we do that, we can still save the Republic. Block out the noise and let’s get to work. 14/X

This article on the counteroffensive is excellent.
“Time was of the essence… To mount an effective counterattack, the Ukrainians needed to move before the first snow, when Putin would be able to use his control of gas supplies to pressure Europe.”
“One critical moment this summer came during a war game with U.S. and Ukrainian officials aimed at testing the success of a broad offensive across the south. The exercise… suggested such an offensive would fail.”
“Instead of one large offensive, the Ukrainian military proposed two. One, in Kherson, would most likely take days or weeks before any dramatic results because of the concentration of Russian troops. The other was planned for near Kharkiv.”
I’ve seen a lot of folks suggest the Dugina assassination was staged because they had an open casket funeral.
It’s certainly possible it *was* staged, but before you jump to conclusions, it’s important to understand that bodies do weird things in explosions. 1/X
There’s a well-known phenomenon with suicide bombers where the detonation over pressure causes their heads to literally pop off. These heads can be found yards away, fully intact.
Apologies for anyone eating breakfast. 2/X
Depending on the yield of the car bomb, Dugina could have been ejected in the initial explosion and before the large fire.
We know the roof of her car was completely blown, and her father is definitely standing next to a mangled corpse in the middle of the road. 3/X
This evening, I was walking into a local grocery store to pick up a couple of things for Mrs. Angry. A lady was wandering between cars, holding a sign, and asking for money for diapers and formula. She didn’t speak much English, and I wasn’t carrying any cash. 1/X
I found out what size diapers she needed, went into the store, picked up a case of diapers, some wipes, and a can of formula.
When I came out to give her the items, there was a lady in a MAGA hat giving her some money, and playing with her baby. 2/X
I don’t tell this story because I need — or want — any credit for buying her baby stuff. This was a lesson I needed today. It’s one I often preach, but it’s one I needed today:
We’re more alike than we’re different, and even if we don’t agree on anything, we can be kind. 3/X
In light of Iranian social media threatening to build nukes and turn New York into “hellish ruins,” I’ve seen some *really* bad missile defense analysis.
Naturally, that means it’s thread time. 1/X
First, I have to say that I’m highly skeptical that Iran has any plans to try to turn New York into hellish ruins — they’re a lot of things, but dumb isn’t one of them. 2/X
Now, let’s talk missile defense.
A vast majority of what goes into missile defense is highly classified, so this is going to be a high-level overview. If you’re looking for US missile defense secrets, this is not the thread for you. 3/X
“Not a criminal investigation of Trump himself” is DC doublespeak that seems to be confusing people who should know better.
1. Yahoo is the *only* outlet reporting it this way.
2. All of the questions being asked make it clear Trump is a target. 2/4
So, we’re supposed to believe they raided multiple lawyers homes, secured the Chief of Staff’s phone records, and asked *dozens* of White House officials about Trump’s actions, but that he somehow isn’t a target?
Come on, people. That’s not even a little bit logical. 3/4
