Lots of talk about resignations by members and party officers amongst the Conservative party ranks on Twitter.

The Johnson/Brexit wing seems to be the most angry.

As someone who has extensive knowlege in this area, let me explain 👇
I’m seeing lots of messages in group chats and on here showing people resigning and papers are saying thousands of members could leave.

Many are asking why? And simply don’t get why these members are so frustrated.

In the minds of this wing of the party that are more on the Eurosceptic right, the most important thing in this country is democracy, that’s why so many campaigned for Brexit and its something that is an utter non negotiable for these people.

They now feel stitched up.
They overwhelmingly backed Boris. He was got rid of without them having a say.

They overwhelmingly backed Truss. She was got rid of without them having a say.

They then had a man many of them think planned the downfall of Boris and Truss implemented as PM.
This is where their frustration lies, that they were asked who they wanted and they said so, twice.

Yet their choice wasn’t accepted and was effectively overturned in what many perceive to be a ‘coup’.

The centrist wing of the party are struggling to comprehend their anger.
For many centrists ‘democracy’ in the form many Brexiteers view is, is not a cornerstone of their political ideology.

For right leaning Brexiteer Conservative party members it is a red line and they feel betrayed.

These are principled people the party is losing.
Too many on the right are now claiming the party want their wing of the party to leave.

It’s a chance for the centrists to purge the right from the party.

If that’s true, from what I’ve seen it’s working to an extent, but maybe not as much as many are claiming. Not yet anyway
The Conservatives only ever cut through when they form a coalition with both wings of the party working together.

The problem is, that in 2022 these wings have totally different views on many major issues - Globalisation, immigration, tax, regulation, culture war etc
How can they both co-exist inside the same party when there’s is such a differnce in the direction our country heading in.

Only time will tell.

But those happy with Sunak’s victory need to comprehend the internal damage the coronation will have on the Conservative Party base.
