Democrats could have, with Murkowski and Collins who support it, passed SJ Res 1 that removes the timeline from the ERA bill and immediately make the Equal Rights Amendment official.

Hillary Clinton was willing to compromise on abortion, picked an anti-choice running mate, and was planning to nominate an anti-choice Republican to the Supreme Court if she became President.
Barack Obama promised to codify Roe if elected and then ignored it for 8 years. He had 59-61 Democrats in the Senate for 72 working days and the existing bill never even came to the floor...
