These slides talked to by Heidi Harris, Director of DEI, #schcom1025
Supt Giguere addresses the following slides #schcom1025
Key is setting expectations to move slow and move together to create a safe space for students to feel welcomed and can find success in learning #schcom1025
Clarification on curriculum equity #schcom1025 Chap 5, section 2 objective of education, it is uncomfortable to discuss these things but with training and prep it will be more comfortable, the world is a diverse workforce hence prep now is key
Compliment on the work being done and highlight example of the scrolling text on the video feed as part of the inclusive actions we're taking to include members of the community in this discussion #schcom1025
DEI will be a consideration as redistricting goes forward, the consultant has asked for info to help with this. #schcom1025 it is a journey, communication will be critical, if the proper info is not shared, human nature will attempt to fill in the gaps
Good to see there is a gap with the gifted students as well, not just the ones on the lower levels. Free lunch helps with equity #schcom10125 Clarification on the diversity calendar, looking to make sure the principals are aware of other items, future goal to share w/community
MCAS results are being worked in detail to present to the committee at the next session, would be more comfortable sharing more then, with the appropriate details #schcom1025 approx cost for audit about $40K, 1 member not surprised with results, was expecting more
The actual cost for the equity audit was approved in 2021 and was $24k. (Not $40k as referenced earlier) #schcom1025
The DEI committee is central to the work to be done, the DEI director will be doing the in-between meeting work as well. #schcom1025
The DEI work is an effort over 5-8 years, the goals as part of the improvement plan shown in these slides #schcom1025
The first tier is the expectation set for a subject or behavior, if a student is not meeting that first level of expectation, what do we need to do to help maintain level 1 and advance beyond the 1st tier #schcom1025
We don't know yet what the future goals will be, we need to take the time to work through the report findings, and see what makes sense to do now, and some in the future; as we do go forward, the goals of the equity plan will be incorporated in the improvement plans #schcom1025

K Thompson, has a well informed opinion on this and how it has come into Franklin schools, what is the difference between equity and equality? If it cost 40-50k (it didn't, updated during meeting as $24k) a biased audit of a left leaning organization #schcom1025

Focus on the process for the assessments that effectively is the cash register for Franklin #fincom1026 real, personal property and motor vehicle excise taxes account for 60% of the Town revenue. How is the assessment related to the market?
Building permits contribute to new growth. These are increases to the levy in excess of the 2.5% cap required w/o an override. Last year's excise file was approx $4M and generated a lot of bills. Errors can be corrected via appeal. 3 appraisers out collecting data #fincom1026
