Analyzing the results of the Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, our team is troubled by one uncomfortable issue:
On the territory of Transnistria there is a large thermal power plant - the Moldavskaya TPP. From its open switchgear there is a 400 kV high-voltage line to Romania, as well as a 330 kV high-voltage line to Moldovan-controlled territory, to Ukraine, and Transnistria itself.
Odessa Oblast, which contains long-term arrangements to transfer both personnel and foreign equipment to the front near Mykolaiv and Kherson, receives a significant part of its electricity precisely from the Moldavskaya thermal power plant.
Yes, the Oblast is also fed by the South Ukraine nuclear plant, Ladyzhinska TPP and the hydro plant cascade on the Dnieper. Still, the Moldavskaya TPP plays an important role.
So, during the spring and summer escalation around Transnistria (when Ukrainian formations conducted exercises near the borders, and some politicians seriously expressed the need for a military operation), a strange situation was observed:
All this time, the Moldavskaya thermal power plant *continued to supply* Ukraine with electricity. But then came October, energy infrastructure was attacked. Almost all thermal plants were hit by cruise missiles or drones.
In addition, substations were hit across the country, except for facilities in the Odessa region (the situation changed on October 22, when two substations in the Odessa region were hit for the first time).
π» What's even stranger is that after the strikes on energy facilities connecting Ukraine to Romania, hundreds of megawatts of electricity are quietly transiting through the Moldavskaya thermal power plant.
And the wildest thing in this situation is that the Moldavskaya thermal power plant also still *generates* electricity that goes to Ukraine.
Yes, we can find many excuses.
For example, the dependence of northern Transnistria on the Podolskaya 330 substation located in Ukraine. Or some commercial contracts for the export and transit of electricity, nothing personal, just business to help the Transnistrian budget.
Or one may object that technically there are no opportunities, that the Transnistrian Republic is an independent state, which decides itself with whom to trade.
There are a lot of reasons to come up with.
But then what is the point of all this? In the end it means we're punching our opponent in the face with one hand, and holding out an ice pack with the other.
[Translation note: in English it's usually called the Cuciurgan power station]

π·πΊ President Vladimir Putin's meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on mobilization and the progress of the SMO.
π»Main points:
- Russia's partial mobilization is complete.
- The set target of 300,000 people has been met, 82,000 reservists have been sent to the SMO zone, 218,000 more are undergoing training. The average age of those mobilized was 35 years.
- Military enlistment offices will continue to recruit from volunteers. Thirteen thousand people have volunteered to fight in the SMO zone.
π·πΊπΊπ¦ Chronicle of Strikes and Mutual Fires in the SMO Zone during the night of October 27-28, 2022
Amid the speech by President Putin, the intensity of overnight shelling in Ukraine significantly decreased. For the first time in a long time, the night was quiet even in Donetsk.
Russian Armed Forces fired on targets in Boyaro-Lezhachy, Vodolahi and Horki in Sumy Oblast, as well as Vovchansk, Olkhovatka and Starytsia in the Kharkiv region.
In the Starobilsk direction, artillery duels continued along the entire line of contact: Russian troops hit the enemy in Druzhelyubivka, Petro-Ivanivka, Zarechne, Makiivka and Yampolivka.
π·πΊπΊπ¦ Once again on the commander of the Central Military District (CMD), Alexander Lapin
A discussion has resumed online around the figure of Colonel General Alexander Lapin, commander of the CMD, whose merits and ability to manage the troops were once again publicly questioned.
Lapin's activities on the front lines and his interaction with his subordinates were reported in detail by @ voenacher and other channels. We will simply list what the troops under his command notably did in the eight months under his command:
When the SMO began, Lapin commanded a rear district with corresponding logistics. Columns of old T-72Bs, BMP-1s and gas-powered "Urals" entered Chernihiv and Sumy regions. Until ordered to withdraw from Kyiv, CMD units were able to cover hundreds of kilometers and reach Brovary.
π·πΊπΊπ¦ On the situation in Sviatohirsk and more "evidence" of Russian crimes
Ukrainian publication "Investigation-Info" prepared a report on the situation in Sviatohirsk. The city was abandoned by Russian troops during the retreat from Balaklia and Izyum.
The video is intended to demonstrate the brutality and lawlessness allegedly inflicted by Russian troops. However, the video production raises questions.
None of the locals interviewed by the journalists named whose troops the servicemen belonged to: Russian forces or AFU. It is quite possible that this information was cut out by journalists during editing, and that some of the violence was committed by Ukrainian servicemen.
The number of munitions transferred to Ukraine exceeds 1 million, according to Baidu news service
(via @ razved_dozor)
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recently announced that U.S. and allied military aid to Ukraine would be slowed due to difficulties in replenishing weapons and ammunition supplies.
U.S. media estimated that since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the U.S. has supplied Ukraine with more than a million rounds of large-caliber artillery, and U.S. and NATO ammunition stocks are already at a "red line."
