While we wait, If you’re interested in engaging with more of the Targaryen lore as well as ASOIAF in general, but are confused where to start…
•
Here is a thread on the books set within the TWOIAF that have been published by GRRM, and each of their purposes! #HouseOfTheDragon
ASOIAF - A Song of Ice and Fire
Three main stories interweave:
•
The dynastic war among several Noble families for control of Westeros
•
Jon Snow & The Nightswatch against the growing darkness beyond the Wall
•
Daenerys Targaryen’s rise to power across the Narrow Sea in Essos
MmThe point of view of each chapter is a limited perspective of a range of characters.
You get a direct look into the minds of iconic characters from the show such as Arya, Tyrion, Cersei, Daenerys, Jon, & more!
MANY more plot lines & characters were not put into the show.
Fire and Blood Vol. 1
Tells the history of the first half of House Targaryens conquest & rule over the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
•
Unlike direct POVs within ASOIAF, this book is more of a historical text written by several chroniclers who were alive at the time of the events.
Important to note that some of this text should be viewed within a questioning lens. Some events, especially those within the Dance of Dragons & it’s conflicting reports, could have been manipulated to favour certain people over others so that history would remember them fonder.
TWOIAF - The World of Ice and Fire
The book details the history of Westeros, from the pre-historic Dawn Age up to just before the main book series, as well as history from diverse and vibrant lands beyond Westeros. The book features stunning artwork accompanying the texts.
GRRM also wrote several other texts as sort of “standalones”
•
Tales of Dunk and Egg
•
The Princess and the Queen
•
The Rogue Prince
•
The Sons of the Dragon

The opening title sequence to Game Of Thrones is ranked as one of the best TV title sequences of all time. In 2011 & 2019, the team behind the design received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design.
Thread on how it came to be & what the map represents🧵
The title sequence was designed by Creative director Angus Wall, art director Robert Feng, animator Kirk Shintani & designer Hameed Shaukat. They were asked to create map pieces that shows exactly where the setting is when they transition to different locations.
Concept art:
The physicality of the map & its pieces are meant to be reminiscent to the designs of Leonardo DaVinci’s machines. Operated by turning gears and cogs. Everything is made of wood, metal, leather, & fabric. Natural materials that could be created by man with hammer, saw, & chisel.
