In 1960 two executives, 1 of a famous soda company, 1 of a water company made a 1 million dollar bet. The bet was about if the water company could sell as much water as the soda company sold soda.
So, they gathered and payed doctors to invent the lie that you need to drink 8 glasses of water a day for optimal health…
…before that, we never drank water. What did we drink?
You would go to water fountains and take a sip a day
Other beverages were orange juice, milk, chewing on vegetables…
…Then by late 60s everybody's drinking tons of water.
Let me tell you some things about water 👇👇
First: What is hydration anyway?
It’s NOT just water in your cells
For water to get into your cells, you need electrically charged minerals (electrolytes) which open the flow of water depending on the different concentrations of said minerals inside and outside of the cell
In short: You need the COMBINATION of the right amount of electrolytes inside and outside of the cell together with the fluid
A dehydrated cell is basically a disbalance of minerals and fluids
It’s NOT just a lack of water
In fact: Too much water can dissolve minerals and lead to DEHYDRATION
Where do you get fluids bound in minerals?
Water is relatively deficient in nutrients. It only has trace amounts of minerals.
Sources where you find good ionically-bound minerals in fluids are for example: Vegetable Juices, Milk, and Fruits.
What IS water good for?
Water is a solvent. It can dissolve toxins in your body to make them less harmful and to then excrete them our of your body.
Water, though, leaches minerals from your body to bind with, since it lacks minerals itself.
So, drinking a gallon of water is not the best thing you can do.
Should you drink water when you’re not thirsty?
Feeling thirsty gives you all the good reasons to drink water.
But by-passing the sign of thirst will lead to a lack of minerals in your cells and eventually dehydration.
Instead, you should stay hydrated all day by sipping good ionically bound fluids like coconut water, vegetable juices or milk.
Sipping is really key.
Why sip?
If you gulp any fluid, the majority of it instantly goes to the kidneys because it is too much to be utilized at once.
By the fluid rushing to the kidneys, you again, end up dehydrated.
WARNING: Sugary drinks like sports drinks with added sugars or fruit juices can dehydrate you
Even though these drinks contain a lot of minerals, glucose itself can make your kidneys overwork and force liquids out of your body.
Let’s look at a quote from the mayo clinic:
“When you have diabetes, excess glucose — a type of sugar — builds up in your blood. Your kidneys are forced to work overtime to filter and absorb the excess glucose.
When your kidneys can't keep up, the excess glucose is excreted into your urine, dragging along fluids from your tissues, which makes you dehydrated. This will usually leave you feeling thirsty.
Now, don’t be scared of water (nor bubbles).
Just be aware that drinking 8 glasses of water a day is a farce.
If you're skeptical, I've gone months without touching a drop.
And my clients always say how they are surprised by how feel well-hydrated despite reducing plain water
My clients, who will reduce water intake (to varying degrees), always say how they are surprised by how feel well-hydrated without plain water
