At least four labs on two continents now have constructed non-natural, lab-generated viruses that retain the high immune escape of Omicron and acquire higher severity than Omicron and that, as such, are reasonably expected to increase transmission or pathogenicity in humans.

2) University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston
3) US Food and Drug Administration
4) Imperial College-London
Because the research was strictly confirmatory, and because the research had no foreseeable practical applications, there were at best minimal benefits to research, and the risk-benefit ratio of the research was at best highly unfavorable.
This is insanity. Both In terms of the redundancy and waste. And, especially, in terms of the risk of triggering a new pandemic wave upon accidental release of the lab-generated viruses--a risk exacerbated by the fact the lab-generated viruses are present in multiple locations.
This should be a wake-up call.
If the world wishes to avoid new new pandemics caused by lab-generated pathogens, then it is urgently necessary to restrict high-risk, low-benefit research that creates enhanced potential pandemic pathogens and to implement effective national oversight with force of law."

"Every few years.., someone publishes a new scientific experiment that reveals a lack of proper biosafety..oversight..And every single time the US government tries to figure out what to do..without..learn[ing]..lessons..It’s time for a change."

"One key problem: Many of the recent policies related to research on potential pandemic pathogens are merely 'guidelines,' they are not laws with enforceable penalties."
"Accountability is key to any sound regulation."

"But..there is no legal liability risk for violating..the guidelines for experiments that could create enhanced potential pandemic pathogens."

White House report, 10/18/2022:

"The risk of laboratory accidents may be increasing with the rise in the number of laboratories.. around the world conducting high-risk..research with potential pandemic pathogens without appropriate oversight."

"[L]aboratories with insufficient biocontainment or biosafety protocols and practices exacerbate the
risk of an outbreak through laboratory-acquired infections or accidental release of a pathogen
into the environment."
"Even with state-of-the-art equipment and standard biosafety protocols, laboratory accidents are possible due to human error or mechanical failures."

"The Wuhan lab at the center of suspicions about the pandemic’s onset was far more troubled than known, documents unearthed by a Senate team reveal. Tracing the evidence, Vanity Fair and ProPublica give the clearest view yet of a biocomplex in crisis.

"Given advance access to hundreds of pages of the Senate researchers’ findings and analysis, Vanity Fair, in partnership with ProPublica, spent five months investigating their underlying evidence."
"We analyzed WIV documents, consulted with experts in CCP communications, asked biocontainment experts to help analyze documents and reviewed with independent scientists the possible evidence that certain vaccine research may have begun far earlier than acknowledged."

"The report, released by Senator Richard M. Burr, Republican of North Carolina, grew out of a joint inquiry with the committee’s Democratic chairwoman that proponents of the effort hoped would add a measure of bipartisan credibility to a highly charged debate."
"But the findings published on Thursday, while interim, bore only Mr. Burr’s signature. And in relying largely on existing public evidence, rather than new or classified information, the report came as something of a letdown"
