Stroke is when there is poor blood flow to the brain causing brain damage.

It is a medical emergency. You need to act FAST to save the remaining parts of the brain as every second counts!

Read & share for others 🧵
There are 2 main types of stroke;

1. #Ischemic stroke: due to blockage of a blood vessel in the brain

2. #Hemorrhagic stroke: due to bleeding directly into the brain or into the space between the membranes that cover it (meninges)
These 8 factors can make you more likely to have stroke

1. High blood pressure: No. 1
2. Obesity
3. Diabetes
4. Smoking
5. High blood cholesterol
6. Kidney disease
7. Irregular heart beat (atrial fibrillation)
8. Previous mini-stroke (stroke symptoms that lasted less than 24hrs)
7 common symptoms of stroke you should know

1. Deviation of face to one side
2. Unable to move/feel on one side
3. Slurred speech
4. Loss of vision in one side
5. Dizziness
6. Weakness
7. Headache

All may not always be there but suspect stroke if someone has esp. the first four
There could be other symptoms of stroke depending on the part of the brain where blood flow is affected and the sex of the individual.

This pix shows you some of the stroke symptoms in Women Vs. Men.
Once you suspect a stroke, don't waste time. Every second matters.

If you're alone, shout for help! 🆘
If there's emergency line dial fast! 📞
If there's none, move patient to hospital fast! 🚑

The more seconds you waste, the more brain tissue gets damaged!
To diagnose stroke properly, your doctor would typically

• perform a physical exam on you paying attention to your blood pressure, and

• order for tests like;
- Brain scan (esp CT -computed tomography)
- Heart scan (Echo)
- ECG (electrocardiogram)
- Chest X-ray
- Blood tests
Early treatment of stroke with medications like "clot busters" can reduce the brain damage while other treatment modalities will focus on limiting the complication and preventing more strokes from happening.
There are many complications of stroke including

1. Brain swelling
2. Abnormal blood clots
3. Chest infection (Pneumonia)
4. Depression
5. Bedsores
6. Seisures
7. Urinary infections
8. Speech problems
9. Muscle tighteness
10. Chronic headaches
To prevent stroke, the most important thing is to prevent/reduce the risk factors we listed above

1. CHECK YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE REGULARLY: Can't stress this enough
2. Eat healthy
3. Exercise
4. No smoking
5. No excess alcohol
6. If placed on BP medications, take them religiously
Some of the damage caused by stroke can not be reversed no matter what treatment is given.

That's why we must act fast to prevent extensive brain injury when we suspect a stroke.

There are two openings in the vulva — the vaginal opening and the urethral opening.

The urethral opening is the hole you pee out of. It is a tiny hole located just below your clitoris. The vaginal opening is right below your urethral opening.
As a woman, during vaginal sex, organisms in your vagina might find thier way deep into your urethra due to two reasons:

1. The thrusting
2. The fact that your urethra is shorter (5cm) than that of men (20cm)

So you are more prone to getting urinary tract infections after sex.

A ring 💍 got in contact with car battery, causing severe chemical burns to the owner's ring finger.

Do not wear your ring when handling potentially harmful substances. Take it off for your own safety. Read and share for others!
Burns caused by acid, alkaline or caustic chemicals such as car battery can be very damaging to the tissues and need immediate medical attention.

You can also get circumferential electric burns of the ring finger if you touch electrically charged surfaces with your ring.
If you have damaging chemical or electric burns, you may need surgery to remove the burnt area of skin and replace it with a section of skin (a graft) taken from another part of your body.

A shocking story I was told by my doctor friend today (read and share).

A 2-year-old boy was brought by his mother to the hospital in severe pains with bruises all over his penis.

He was reportedly sexually assaulted by a house-help, a 13-year-old girl, who looks after him when his mom is away.
The house-help would fiddle with this little boy's penis, then use it to rub on her genitals for several minutes especially when the boy's mother is not around.

The girl confessed that the act has been going on for the past 3 months even though the boy's mom was not aware.

A woman just lost her life due to ectopic pregnancy!

Ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg attaches anywhere outside the womb or uterus rather than inside.

It can be life-threatening.

But we can save lives by helping educate everyone on the Timeline with this.

Thread 🧵
In the human body, a fertilized egg hardly survives outside the womb. If allowed to grow, it may damage nearby organs & cause severe blood loss.

The bulk of ectopic pregnancies occur in/along the Fallopian tubes. Some in the ovaries, cervix or a random location in the abdomen.
The usual symptoms of ectopic pregnancy a woman may experience especially in early pregnancy are;

- Abdominal pain
- Vaginal bleeding, &
- Amenorrhea (missing your period)

Other pregnancy symptoms like breast fullness & occasional nausea may be there too.
