🧵 I’ve seen people discuss this moment and I wanted to offer something that I noted. I believe that episode 7 takes place during Mardi Gras 1939, so February 21. On February 20, 1939 there was a large Pro Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden. #IWTV
Me and some others did the math and decided on 1939 back when the teasers of the trio offering what seem like introductory speeches dropped.
The rally at MSG in 1939 touted 20,000 attendees. They were countered by thousands of protesters in the streets outside.
I’m going to link an NPR article below that offers more incite into the details of that night as well as an account of the injustice that befell 26-year-old Isadore Greenbaum, a Jewish man who sat through the rally and “disrupted” the night by attempting to unplug the mic.
The image of hitler in the trailer in combination with the dates lining up (or seeming to), makes me feel that it’s going to be addressed by the show and lay some groundwork for some social commentary that may take place in season 2.
In the event that my math is wrong and this is just a coincidence, the 1939 “Pro-American Rally” (🫠) is a piece of American history that more people should know about and I implore everyone not to let it fade from public memory 👇🏾
