HOOO BOY. Ok fair citizens, don't get too worked up over this. Do yall remember the year of those creepy clowns & you'd call us and we'd bravely take the call & handle it, despite the re-imagining of Stephen King's IT Part 2 out around that time?! This is nothing like that.
We saw there were over 2,500 reactions on this story within a small amount of time, so let us put down our Halloween buckets, take a step back, and explain.
2/
Tonight, in the last hour or so, we were called to a "disturbance" off of North Carroll and Highland (the neighborhoods around Gateway Church). Some #teens driving a golf cart had ganked a whole container of candy and fled.
3/
Not in the Trick or Treat way, but in a way that alarmed a fair citizen.
The mom of the #teens arrived lightning fast to the whole thing. She reprimanded her teens, made them give back the candy, and made them apologize.
Way to go Mom.
4/
The caller was unsatisfied with that whole thing and attempted to escalate the situation. We didn't allow that to happen.
5/
Mom went home. The #teens went home. The caller went home. The candy was returned. We guess in a way, you could say Mom and the Southlake Police Department saved Halloween?

HARROWING, TEETH CLENCHING, SNAKE GRATE RESCUE THREAD! Isn’t it nice to live in a city so safe that this is the big event of the week? Yesterday Tori and Carly were in the final days of a two-week quarantine at home.
1/
Mom was working inside, and as the rules of the house state, after lunch and after homework, both girls were able to play outside.
2/
That’s right! We’ve got some good old fashioned amazing pre-teens here, thrilled to explore the outdoors and see nature instead of TikToking or vegging on the couch watching MrBeast on YouTube.
REUNION! Many things bring us joy in this profession, but certain things make our hearts want to burst. One such instance happened over the holidays, when our friend Jacob Thompson visited us and thanked us for saving his life. We hadn’t seen him in over a year.
1/
On December 5th, 2020, Jacob left his job in Irving and drove home on Highway 114.
2/
While driving through Southlake, he was hit head on by a wrong way driver. Southlake Firefighters worked hard to remove him from his vehicle and got him to the hospital, where he fought for his life, and doctors eventually amputated his legs.
TEXT SCAM ALERT THREAD! This has been a wild September for these fraudulent texts trying to get us to clicky click one of these links! It might be a good time to remind Gram Gram and Pop Pop to not click on any random text link, even if they do claim to be from AT&T.
1/
Show them the clues that these texts may not be from who they say they’re from. Like how no one has said “symbolic gift” in like 100 years. Or how “Arely” isn’t their name, or any name.
2/
Do companies routinely make a point to send them a random text that use phrases like “signal down time” or “here’s a little something for you.”
3/
Maybe it was all that art talk this past weekend. Maybe it’s because we heard K-Ci & JoJo’s “All My Life” on Sirius XM this morning & hoo boy, the feels that come with that opening “oooooooooh.” We don’t know what it is that has us a little artsy & a little reflective today.
1/
But as we came to work this morning, right where a large bag of nasty trash sat outside of our door at HQ is now what looks like a nice little heart.
That’s a nice way to look at things, right? Where gross, repugnant, stinky trash once sat, now sits a heart.
2/
Something really nice and pretty came from something ugly.
As we start our week, maybe we all try to be the heart versus the trash.

EVENT ADDED! Youve asked over and over, "WHEN IS THE CRUD CRUISER COMING BACK?!" Boom shaka laka, it's finally here. We hope your excitement for it eclipses this graphic Blayke the Intern made (we're working on a huge video project & punted to him). But YAY CRUD CRUISER!
1/
Now look. COVID forced so many cancellations of these events and we gander a chunk of you spent the last year at home cleaning and organizing, cleaning and organizing. That's fantastic.
2/
But we need you to know that the Crud Cruiser has limited capacity & itll be well attended & this thing might even be full before 11:00am. When it's full, it leaves, so we may have to turn you away if the line is too long. Don't get mad at us. Don't get mad at our volunteers.

MUTUAL AID! Earlier this month, the Southlake Fire Department was contacted concerning a wildland deployment to West Texas through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS).
1/
They requested a brush truck and two wildland firefighters, along with other units in the TIFMAS region. TIFMAS serves as the primary response force for any wildland event that could occur.
2/
West Texas & the Panhandle are experiencing extreme drought conditions, raising the risk of wildland fires. B401, which consists of Lieutenant VanNatta & Firefighter Vogel have deployed to the Southern Panhandle & are part of the primary response force for an 18-county area.
