/1 Despite not being one of his supporters, I thoroughly read the 80-page policy document titled #RenewedHope2023 released by the APC presidential candidate. I noticed some flaws as well as some innovative goals that, if implemented, will benefit the majority of Nigerians.
/2 My thoughts are as follows:
Significant remark
I appreciate the candidate's statement in the foreword, "I welcome your inputs and critiques..." This is one of the reasons I read the document so thoroughly.
/3 Among other things promised, the candidate did not mention or commit himself to the fight against corruption in the foreword section, which he personally signed. This is not surprising given that I doubt he intends to push this fight.
/4 I agree with @seunonigbinde that most of the promises in the policy document cannot be quantified because some of the things he proposed are vague, while others are simply promises without a deadline or a plan for achieving them.
/5 Of course, some of the promises in the document are quantifiable, such as three cabinet positions for youths, international standard primary and health care facilities in each geopolitical zone, and so on.
/6 One of the most intriguing aspects for me is his advice on internal security, which is a novel concept. The majority of the ideas in the policy document are not novel, and some are well-known.
/7 I like how he referenced what he did during his tenure as Gov to some of the solutions he will be bringing on board.
Minor remark
The text does not adhere to the same spacing pattern, and there are a few grammatical errors. Examples can be found on pages 8-9, 46, and so on.
/8 Final observations
To the best of my knowledge, I believe that if some of the plans in the document are implemented with strong political will, they will benefit the vast majority of Nigerians.
/9 However, I have my doubts about a government plan that does not mention any anti-corruption agencies, and how he will improve future elections, indicating that we may have a free for all type of government.
I wish him the best!
