for the people in the back… *indigenous identity is NOT based on family lore or an ancestor from generations ago.* it is a LIVING connection! it is a responsibility to uphold kinship & relationship. maybe don’t claim to represent a people you have no relationship with.
like don’t make a career off of claiming to be part of a family system (literally what our nations are) if no one there knows you?? it’s just such a strange capitalist individualist phenomenon !! just another form of exploiting & extracting from native communities.
“living connection” can be revived and that’s what reconnecting means… but there is no excuse for pimping out your deceased ancestor (who you never met) in your resume, in your publicity campaign before you’ve even figured out who your living relatives are. 🤮
