Russian Foreign Ministry statement on "hypothetically resorting to nuclear weapons exclusively in response to an aggression involving the use of weapons of mass destruction or an aggression with the use of conventional weapons when the very existence of the state is in jeopardy."
This appears to walk back previous threats by Putin that even Russia's territory integrity could trigger nuke use. (That was especially irresponsible of him to suggest, given that Russia has annexed territory it does not control.) mid.ru/ru/foreign_pol…
I wonder if the reason for this statement is a response to Masha Gessen's New Yorker article?

In his 1st public remarks since his daughter’s funeral, Alexander Dugin says “Armageddon and the Apocalypse are unfolding before our eyes” in Ukraine. He made these remarks at an event after speeches by Patriarch Kirill and Putin’s deputy chief of staff, Sergey Kiriyenko.
The event, the World Russian People’s Council, is organized by the Russian Orthodox Church w/ help from monarchist businessman Konstantin Malofeev. Other speakers: Senator Inna Svyatenko, Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov, Gennady Zyuganov (lol), LDPR head Leonid Slutsky, etc.
And what did Putin’s guy, Kiriyenko, say? He shared a note from Putin about “the consolidation of our people” and preservation of Russian “historical identity,” thanked supporters for aiding the war effort, condemned “unprecedented foreign pressure,” etc.
Another Russian warplane (an Su-30) has crashed into a residential building, this time in Irkutsk. The two pilots reportedly died. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Wow. Incredible photo of the Su-34 that crashed today in Yeysk, Russia, after one of its engines caught fire. (The pilot reportedly ejected, as seen in the photo here.) t.me/boris_rozhin/6…
According to an unconfirmed report, at least one person died in this crash and three more (including a child) were injured and are now hospitalized. t.me/breakingmash/3…
Several hundred Russian draftees apparently somewhere outside Belgorod film themselves on train tracks complaining about "beastial conditions," saying they've had to spend their own cash to eat. They're being sent into war with ammo simply found in the street. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
"We've been living outside. 90% of these people are sick. These weapons are from the 70s and 80s. Pneumonia, everyone has a fever. You can dent the helmets with your fingers."
Interesting thread on these videos. A Prigozhin media stunt?
well whadaya know: "United States intelligence agencies believe parts of the Ukrainian government authorized the car bomb attack near Moscow in August that killed Daria Dugina" nyti.ms/3SFwmiM
Speaking personally and without any insider knowledge, this always seemed like the most reasonable explanation to me.
More from the article: “American officials have been frustrated with Ukraine’s lack of transparency about its military and covert plans, especially on Russian soil.”
