Enrolment for the next cohort of my Part-Time YouTuber Academy is now open, by the way 🥳
If you want to go all in on YouTube, this four week course might be the kick-start you need. Scholarship applications are open until end of day Thursday, too.
The past 3 days have been the most productive of my life. I’ve been in Bali for the past few days, on a writing retreat to bang out 2nd drafts for my book.
These are the 5 new(ish) apps I’ve been using extensively that have genuinely made me more productive in book-mode 🧵
(1) “Rize” - been using it for the past 12 months, it’s surprisingly good as an automatic time tracker and helps keep me on track. rize.io/aliabdaal for a cheeky discount code if you like :P not an ad, but i think that’s an affiliate link or something
(2) @SigmaOS web browser. Like Chrome but gives you multiple “workspaces” on the side so you can organise stuff like research, writing, analytics, chill etc. this was a bit of research for Chapter 1 :P Also sigma gang, i want to invest 👀
When I started the Part-Time YouTuber Academy, I created the course I wished was around in 2017, and packed it with as much value as I could
A core part of this is having guest speakers on to get varied insights from different creators 💡
Here’s who’s joining us for Cohort 7 👇
@nathanieldrew_ is a filmmaker who explores language, travel and life experiments on his 1.6 million subscriber channel.
He’ll chat to us about his YouTube process, how he thinks about creativity and having content creation be a part of life, and more. youtube.com/c/nathanieldre…
Jade's casual magic has built a positive and mental-health focused community. She'll speak to us about what its like to be a Part-Time YouTuber while maintaining motivation. youtube.com/c/UnJadedJade
Last night I did a 1.5 hour live stream about how to grow on YouTube, taking questions from people who’ve signed up to our Part-Time YouTuber Academy waiting list for the next cohort.
Here are some of the Q+A's that came out of that, in case anyone's interested 😜
Q1: What should you care about at each level of YouTube growth?
A: I started off the stream by sharing my “Get Going, Get Good, Get Smart” model (linked below). Until you’re at Level 3 (around 1k subscribers+) you shouldn’t get bogged down by analytics.
24 hours ago, I tried an experiment - I tweeted a thread with 15 productivity hacks. It’s become one of my highest performing tweets of all time, with over 1 million impressions and 23,648 engagements.
The truth is - the entire thread was written by an AI.
The app lets you use GPT-3 by @OpenAI to beat writers block. You write as you usually would, but if you get stuck, you type +++, and GPT-3 generates the next few lines. I decided to try it for some productivity advice
In 5 years of YouTube, the most common question I still get from my viewers is “how are you so productive?”
So here’s a thread of 15 actionable tips that help me do more of the things that matter to me, without burning out. 🧵
1 - Set a Daily Highlight. Each morning, ask yourself “what’s the most important thing I want to do today?” and then make sure you just do that thing. When you do this everyday (or even most days) for a whole year, you make an incredible amount of progress.
2 - Have an Hourglass on your Desk - This is a simple reminder to make the most of your time. I use a sand timer, but you could also use an hourglass app on your phone or computer.
