A group photo of the Gor Mahia squad in 1984, at their high-altitude residential training camp in Nyahururu.
This was a few days before theie opening match of the East and Central Africa Club championship against Uganda's KCC FC in Nairobi.
The following day, midfield enforcer and the engine of the team, Charles Otieno "Kabanze" (standing in the middle), "disappeared" from the camp, and signed for Kenya Breweries.
This jolted the entire team as the team's game plan was centred around him.
Coach, Len Julians had hoped to unleash a dream midfield diamond that included him alongside new signings, Abbas Khamis Magongo and George Onyango "Fundi".
That was not to be.
Without the "Engine", Kogalo lost in the final, to arch-rivals AFC Leopards.
On the day, Ingwe were dominant in midfield, with new signings Issa Suleiman and Moses Mulamba running the show.
One wonders what could have been, had Charles Otieno featured in his favoured box-to-box role.

This is one of the songs which depict the late Musa Juma as a great lead guitarist. Here, Musa was thanking friends who offered him the much needed support especially during the early days of his musical career.
He particularly mentions friends who stood with him in Muhoroni where his career got a boost. He's simply appreciating them for having given him a springboard from where he went on to become a household name in the music industry.
Among others, MJ mentions people like Tom Aringo(Aringo Tommy), Magero chief, Andrew Matoka ja Kano, Keke Kenny etc.

Kisumu Breweries FC at the Ruaraka Stadium during the KBL inter-departmental soccer tournament in the late-80s.
At the time, the talent-laden squad played at the Nyanza Provincial Second Division league, and served mainly as a nursery for national league giants, Kenya Breweries.
The team was coached by former international sweeper, Livingstone Tiema. In 1988, they almost caused a major upset in the Moi Golden Cup, bravely holding AFC Leopards to an end-to-end 3-3 draw, before losing on penalties, in a game that unveiled youngster Terry Onyango,
who ran international fullback, Hassan Juma rugged, throughout the thrilling contest.
Other starlets in this team included skillful midfielders, Shaban "Mshaba" Juma, Benson "Bokelo" Akello, Joel Otanga, Clarance Tabie, forwards Brian Tiema,

400 years ago, it provided a fertile scene for the ultimate fight between Luos and Maasais.
Hitherto, Luos had enjoyed joyride in victory after victory over Bantu groups who were no match for the highly militarised and migratory community with a tight hierarchy.
Nilotic people were more refined in battle because of three key factors:
1. They were not sedentary and preferred moving from time to time. Constant movement necessitates preparedness for war.
2. They weaved belligerence and warfare into their economy and culture. For example, a Luo man had to earn his "nying Mar juok"
