🔥 [THREAD] Google October 2022 Spam Update : (at least) 7 types of websites shot down by Google. Techniques, patterns, impact⬇️
1. New adult websites - Large and old Adult websites seem to have successfully overcome the SpamBrain update, but many newcomers who have received significant visibility in a short time have been shot down :
2. Websites (intentionally or unwillingly) having adult content :
3. New streaming websites - the same as with adult sites, a lot of new arrived streaming websites in 2021-2022 are shot down by the update :
4. Programmatic Websites based on scraping of #PeopleAlsoAsk questions & answers :
4.1. Has Google penalized all PAA-based programmatic websites? No, far from it, the biggest (at least in France) continue to resist :
4.2. Does Google now with a new version of SpamBrain automatically penalize all new PAA-websites? No, here is one launched in October 2022 still on the rise. Most likely it's just a matter of time.
5. Automatically and badly translated websites - shot down websites are really badly translated with sentences that are full of mistakes and often don't make sense. 2 examples here : websites translating Stackoverflow and GeekForGeeks :
6. Programmatic PAA websites + translated on other languages. In the example below, the website extracted People Also Ask questions & answers in english and translated them in French. It got detected and wiped out by SpamBrain :
7.1. Simple directories websites based on scraping of 1 main source, for example entreprises directory with only Google Business Profile data. Again, young websites with rapid growth :
7.2. Another example of the same type : a directory of actors profiles filled with the data from existing profiles on official agencies websites :
In conclusion, what do we know about the latest Google Spam Update :
1. What the September 2022 Google Helpful Update didn't do, the Spam Update did. Less subtle, SpamBrain is a big sweep of sites you would never like to see in search. ⬇️
2. With the new version of SpamBrain, Google has tightened more its grip on duplicate, automatically translated, inappropriate content.⬇️
3. The most impact on young sites whose vertiginous growth is visibly a red flag. The old and big ones for now are holding up.⬇️
4. In all cases observed, SpamBrain works as a filter that is applied over sites and pages. The impacted pages remain indexed (visible with the site: command), just the anti-spam filter prevents them from being displayed in the visible area of the search results.⬇️
5. In addition to a significant loss of visibility, websites impacted by SpamBrain are significantly slowed down in the acquisition of new ranking queries or even completely blocked (despite the publishing of new content, these no longer go up in Google).⬇️
6. SpamBrain can have collateral negative effects on good pages if the number of spam pages is very high. 7. In case of suspicion about the absence of rankings, do not hesitate to take a look at the evolution of the rankings from October 21, 2022 on @sistrix, @semrush , @ahrefs
